Ouch.  Not a Sauv Blanc fan myself.  Nice takedown Ken. 😁

Your profile literally says wine.

Started into pairing. Csw = certified specialist of wine, but the program doesn’t touch cigars

please don't take this the wrong way but if sauv blanc is involved, someone will have to tell me how it went, because i won't be.

the heading says wine and cigars. so that automatically rules out savvy.

Steady Ken I won't be attending so not to worry it is all yours and the wine you want

I will be enjoying my wine while watching a movie,  have fun 🥂

Even Edmond Vatan or Haut Brion Blanc?

Ken and I rescheduled our cigar review to Saturday this week.

We will work it out then and post up the details Sunday.  :ok:

the Haut Brion Blanc is semillon dominant (okay, not by much) so that is a completely different animal (that said, it is one of the wines i've seen most cork problems with and given the obscene price, that is not acceptable - not seen one for a few years so i hope that has been fixed).

the one exception might be the wines made by didier dageuneau before he flew into the mountain. but even then, if you opened a dozen, i found around three of them spectacular, 6 okay but way overpriced, and 3 just awful. at their prices, not a ratio i'd take. for me, francois cotat would be the next. i can look at some of the examples that have been seriously worked, such as dog point's section 94, which i quite like, but largely because it is nothing like normal savvy. but then i really dislike tokoko. and the same blokes were behind it. go figure? vatan? honestly can't remember trying one. happy to do so but on someone else's dime.

Not only cork issues with Haut Brion blanc but the pre mox issues are horrible…(at least 90’s forward)

I think you would enjoy older Edmond Vatan…quite different than anything else out there…Francois Cotat being my backup as well for solid Sauv but Vatan is a different animal.

i'll keep an eye out. but i simply dislike savvy enough that i would never think of spending that sort of dosh on a bottle.

never saw any premox in the bordeaux bottles - or not really. certainly not compared to what happened with white burgs.

The only sauv blanc I've ever enjoyed was from a small winery in Margaret River Western Australia - known for great Chardonnay. It, of course, tasted nothing like a sauv blanc and more like a Chardy with great complexity and a lingering aftertaste with a touch of sherbet and nuttiness on the back palate. I think they may have won an award for it. It was in 2010 I think. I'm with Ken though. Can't stomach it. One whiff and it's gag reflex inducing to be honest. Not sure why. Like a really good aged semillon though. And a shout out to those winemakers in the Hunter Valley NSW who have been hit with flooding. Hopefully, high enough to avoid it. Cheers.

I've never really been taken to Loire Sauv Blanc and the Kiwi SBs have not done it for me either.  I think there is a better chance of success with the Bdx SB-Semillon blends, but these can cost a pretty penny especially in good vintages such as 2021 and not enjoyable enough to deserve the coin, although would quite like to try DDC etc.

My suggestion: port.

The right port or Madeira has worked for me a few times. I just suck at picking the pairings.

nor do i but don't tell rob.

we'll be making this up as we go.

It is impossible to ever be surprised by Ken's closed mindedness, more then likely the result of never using proper grammar and capitals.

But anyway, would Chablis be more inline with your limited palette?
