There are simply no non Cuban cigars that taste like a Cuban H. Upmann. Saying there are is simply fooling oneself. Apples vs. Oranges. An apple will never taste like an orange and vice versa. Period.

"I want a $50 whisky that's readily available and tastes like a Bunnahabhain 40."

Sure man, me too. But I live in the real world and in the real world we have the triangle of truth.

Wanting a large ring gauge NC cigar that tastes like a small ring gauge CC doesn't fit into the triangle of truth.

To be fair, those are the real brands that were sold to non cuban companies by the rightful owners when they left Cuba. I agree that most of them are generic, but they own the trademark due to the families selling them the rights.

I thought of that when I posted my comment. The red dot Cohiba though. Can we all admit that should not exist?

In my experience, you wont' find anything that tastes like the Cuban Upmann.  You might find something else you like, but it won't be the same.

Regarding the gentleman's size, here is something that doesn't make sense to me: has any of you ever heard big dudes complaining that cigarettes are too small for their hands/mouths? I haven't. And cigarettes are what in the 20s RG? How is that big guys don't seem to have an issue with smoking something super small and skinny like a cigarette, but then a cigar, which even as a "skinny" is quite a bit bigger than a cigarette, that's not good...

That makes no sense to me

Cigarettes are about habit.

Cigars in the main are about enjoyment. You reach for what you "enjoy".

Isn't the habit usually initially driven by enjoyment? If small sticks are an issue wouldn't it interfere with the enjoyment in the initial phase of cigarette smoking?

I don't know... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I suspect that image and perception plays a substantial role here, more than an actual tangible size issue. After all when cigars are portrayed in the media, they always go for big ones. If that is indeed the case, I believe there would be a great sense of freedom and increased enjoyment is someone were able to break free from that stuff and 100% focus on the actual taste and cigar smoking experience.

This is just IMHO.

This can’t happen soon enough.  They are terrible, so they now make a pretty box and list them at an insane price, but the law of influence produces buyers.

I don't mind at all. Let them distract buyers with the pretty boxes - I prefer the ugly boxes

I smoked nothing but NCs for around 8 years and nothing will really match that profile.

The trend of NCs for several years now has been massive ring gauges and high nicotine driven powerhouses.  Flavor is secondary.

I still enjoy several NCs, but the ones I enjoy share nothing really with the CC profile.

Ones that share anything in common?  I dunno, some Don Peppin stuff, Nub Habanos, Te Amo (yes, I said that), some Davidoff, Oliva (I would go more G than V on this).  None of them are spot on, but taste is subjective.

Actually I had a few great discussions with some larger dudes that allowed me a better understanding of why large ring gauge cigars are so popular in the US. It's a very common mentality that larger dudes don't want to smoke smaller cigars because they don't find it comfortable.

Of course it's a mindset. Michael Jordan is a very large dude and he only smokes long skinnies. But B&Ms in the US, for the most part, don't spend the time educating their customers because it's far easier to just sell them what they want.

I think large ring guages and big lifted trucks have the same motivations behind them here in the U.S. Low self esteem and the need to impress people.

23 also has a skinny legs which he famously has talked about in relation to the length of his shorts back in the day

The long and skinny just fits MJ :)

While I can see The Rock better fit by a 8x80 behemoth
