El Presidente Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Things you heard this week that made you go "Hmmmmm" This thread is for tidbits you come across from time to time that make you mentally stop, prop and go "hmmmm". If it is a book or podcast, maybe reference it. Maybe it is something your father or grandfather said, something you read on the local rag or bathroom wall.....whatever makes you mentally slow down and focus even if it is only for a few seconds.
El Presidente Posted February 3, 2022 Author Posted February 3, 2022 Two things I picked up today from a podcast re Oliver Burkeman’s book “The Libertaion of Cosmic Insignificance” 1. The average human lifespan is 4000 weeks 2. Human existence is really a blink of an eye in the scheme of things. Perspective? If a lifespan was 100 years, Jesus was only born 20 lifetimes ago 1
Popular Post Drguano Posted February 3, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2022 In the video review of the D4, you stated that you read every one of the Kenfessions 2 9
Popular Post SMELTZ Posted February 3, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 3, 2022 I was watching this video of New York like in the late to early 1800's and was blown away with how far we have come in a short time. Interesting that every person you see in this video is now passed on. 5

... Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 A younger colleague (29-30), been in our field for 4 years, mentionned in a meeting he was ready to be a Senior contributor based on the amount of work he was putting in... I guess 🤔
GoodStix Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 she who must be obeyed: "it's me or your damned cigars!" hmmm... 🤔

I guess 🤔 bet he's well educated. I have one of my employees who was worked in his position for 2 years suggest the same (same age - 30'ish) at least he's motivated.
GoodStix Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 "Are you John Connor?" LOL that's awesome! 🤣 1 2
coug28 Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Wonder what’s being sold on secondary market to afford these SB tickets?! $5k+ for worst seat in the house. 1 1

Its in LA..... The cheapest Raiders home tickets this year where between $850 and $1000. For nose bleed seats, against the Bears. $5k seems like a deal for the Super bowl. I know that buys a whole farm around Cincinnati, but everything's relative. 😄 1 1

Only deeply so if this person doesn't actually work hard. When I became a lawyer I was amazed by how many lawyers are truly mediocre or below in intelligence and drive. It made me think the same must be true of doctors also, and I've been wary to see one ever since. At least if your guy is smart, maybe he's noticing the same thing in your field, and feels he's above it?

If the law of averages means anything, A LOT of people suck at most common jobs, regardless of the qualifications needed to obtain said job. 2
El Presidente Posted November 11, 2022 Author Posted November 11, 2022 ......on average men think about sex 19 times per day ....there is nothing wrong about being above average 4
Chibearsv Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Only 2 NFL teams are in the top ten for both rushing and passing this season so far. Eagles, ok makes some sense. And the Lions? Weird

Bill Hayes Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Tend to fall down the worm hole of sciencey stuff, but always amazes me that it takes approx 8mins for a light photon to reach the earth, so every time you look at the sun it was 8mins ago. Hence, the Hubble space telescope looks back in time and if we can look back far enough we may see the beginning of the universe. Don't get me started on string theory and Higgs Boson, I'll end up like Russell Crowe on A Beautiful Mind, writing mad theories on my windows and garage walls. Ha Ha. Once had a theory that if the universe is expanding but mathematically it seems not to expanding from a central point then maybe everything is shrinking..... Ahhhhhh.... And what is Dark Matteeeeeeeer.... Help!
westg Posted November 15, 2022 Posted November 15, 2022 I read that 700 million cigars are sold every year. Probably a few more. And 700 million cigarettes are sold every hour of every day. Hmmmm.
Webbo Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 The entire gold ever mined would full just 2.5 Olympic swimming pools. If emptied of water Loch Ness could hold more than 10x the worlds total population.
El Presidente Posted November 16, 2022 Author Posted November 16, 2022 The current value of the entire crypto market is approximately 1/3rd the value of Apple.

I actually went into an apple store for the first time a few days back . I was stunned and amazed. My partner's daughter wanted new head phones for her birthday. $900 later 1
