You guys take Kyrgios too seriously. He’s a tennis player more by accident than by choice and he would rather play basketball if it weren’t for the $$ he makes from prize money as well as endorsements he earns. Where does it say in the tennis rule book you have to behave a certain way or be a role model for kids or fit a particular mould that appeases everyone’s sensibilities as well as  everyone’s expectations?
Remember the original ‘Superbrat’ McEnroe ?You cannot be serious!! This was back in the 80s! for Gods sake..

Remember Maria Sharapova and her shrieking/grunting, you needed to have to turn the sound down on the tv to watch her. Pete Sampras? boring as hell, like watching paint dry, and yes, the one true KNOB The knob of all knobs, the deported and departed, NOVAX Djokovic..
Kyrgios is just a young and immature Aussie Larrikin that enjoys taking the piss and is just having the time of his life..

He puts bums on seats Ken,  sorry some of the bums are not quite to your taste.

a few things.

again we have someone making assumptions about what i say or mean without reading what i have actually said. have said elsewhere that i have absolutely no problem with anyone bringing crowds to the game. of whatever ilk. as someone who watches less and less tennis the older i get, as do a fair number of my mates, anything that brings crowds is a plus for the game.

the women grunting? i did not turn the sound down. i just turned the tv off.

sampras boring? pete sampras was one of the greatest players to pick up a racquet. granted he wasn't screaming at referees or smashing his gear (neither did borg carry on like that - presumably he was boring as well? was it five wimbledons in a row? federer? other than some very youthful missteps, he has been nothing but a credit to himself, the game, his country - say that about old mate?), just playing great tennis. if you find that boring then perhaps you should be watching cage fighting and not tennis because clearly watching a player of sublime skill does nothing for you.

mcenroe might have carried on like a plonker but he had some respect for the actual game. kryios does not. actually, despite the antivax rubbish, so does djokovic (which does not mean i thought he should not have been tossed). but he was far from the original. jimmy connors before him and the man who started it all, as far as i am aware, ilie nastase (who i actually hit with my car once during a tournament at milton - fortunately, gently. i was backing up and he stepped out without looking. not sure who got the bigger shock). and as rob says, mcenroe has made the most of his talent. all three of those did so. kryios is a joke in comparison.

where does it say....? well, where does it say i have to enjoy his rubbish? or even watch it? where does it say i can't support anyone who plays him and express a view on his antics? that i can't be utterly repulsed by him?

kyrios disrespects the game, the fans, his opponents. if you and others want keep making excuses for him and to keep coming back for that, entirely up to you. forgive me if i am not.

larrikin is usually used as a term of endearment of affection. kyrios is 26/27, not 18. perhaps the time for being the class clown is over? he is like the 30 year old who keeps turning up to schoolies. he is not a larrikin. he is a grub. big difference.

but if in the end, you can't see the difference between guys like nadal, federer, laver and many others in comparison with an utter twat like kryios then again, perhaps cage wrestling is more your speed.

PS - where does it say?

the code of conduct/regulations set out by tennis australia for tournaments here. you enter, it is a condition of that entry that you conduct yourself in accordance with the code as set out. page 51 or 107 or thereabouts. he clearly does not. that said, tennis australia's conduct has hardly been exemplary and they allow him to carry on the way he does. plenty of the blame should be attached to them.

had kryios belted a ball into a child at the US open, he would have been immediately defaulted. sadly our officials did not have the spine to do it.

Hang on, was that page 51 or 52 (the print is so small). Let’s get back to the real topic Ken. You actually hit Ilie Nastase with your car!! I have to apologise then, you really take your tennis seriously. There’s got to be a movie in that story, or at very least an episode of Seinfeld. 😉

be a short episode. i used to be far more interested in tennis (cannot watch womens' tennis any more with the endless grunting and i believe that the huge increase in technology with racquets have hurt the game - the old days saw players having to rely on skill alone, and then there are the tossers).

my old man (who was a very good tennis player - beat a guy who was playing davis cup a few years later for the school title, although that was less impressive when i later found out that the guy was three years younger than dad) was the honorary lawyer for the QLTA (basically Queensland Tennis) for decades. sent me out to Milton one day during a tournament to deliver some documents. ilie nastase was the star attraction - you could get guys like that at various state tournaments in those days. i delivered the docs and am backing out of the car space, very carefully, and bang. i hit something. i had been checking. turns out ilie was wandering about the place having a look - it was shortly before the tournament was to start - and not paying attention and stepped out from behind the next van without looking. thankfully i was going very slowly and i only just bumped him. the shock on his face.

given his reputation, i expected a gobful but he just waved an apology and scurried away.

all i could think of was the monumental serve i would have copped from my old man had i run down the tournament's star.

this all gets better and better. apparently, according to the latest reports, our friend has decided that perhaps he should get the vax after all.

so now one half of the world thinks him the complete moron for not having the vax and all the fuss he caused. and the other half will think him a moron for caving in and getting it. couldn't make it up.

The knob is back at it again this year at Wimbledon .

Jesus Christ! this man is an out and out bellend.....cant stand the sight of him.....or his stupid bloody voice

It seems he's done the following equation:

being a second rate tennis player + being a whiny, argumentative, dickhead = the slight off-chance of distracting more talented players from winning.

Sledging is a part of cricket, we accept it.......we love it (within reason)         Sledging, distracting, is not a part of tennis.  if you want to act like a child, don't be surprised when you find out everyone hates your guts.

His antics are a plain and simple reflection of the fact he knows he simply isn't good enough.

spitting at crowds. endless abuse of refs, players, crowds. anyone who does not bend the knee. screams at anyone who dares question him but then insists he has the right to question anyone else. possibly the second biggest ego on the planet. a truly vile piece of work.

have not and will watch a second while he remains in a tournament. my greatest current fear, even more than global warming, is that this piece of filth actually wins a slam. i would rather see england win the ashes and new zealand share a world cup with the poms than this bloke win a slam.

not much makes me feel ashamed or embarrassed to be an australian. he does.

two points.

1. equal shame must go to tennis authorities around the world. ours showed what rancid jellyfish they were trying to sneak djokervic into australia and putting tennis ahead of the nation. the rest show it with tiny little slaps on the wrist no matter how appalling this grub is. grow a spine and ban him for a year (forever would be preferable). this is on them. they encourage this crap by docking him a few cents and letting him continue. first umpire who steps up and kicks him out of a tournament can have a nobel prize. their choice.

2. despite what a lot of people think, and have said here, he is anything but a second rate player. for pure natural talent, he might just have more of that than anyone we've seen. he is a supremely gifted player. if his head was right, he could have a dozen slams already. such a shame that talent like his resides in a piece of walking pondscum. and if anyone ever doubts there is no god, this bloke is the most compelling evidence imaginable. he is just as compelling a piece of evidence for the fact that top level sport includes a huge chunk of the mental as well as the physical.

i see he has been fined again. $10K in the first round and two games later, more crap but this time just $4k. it goes down? by the way, winning that round earnt him 120,000 POUNDS, not A$. he'd spend $4K in the bar after. what a farce. tennis has created this monster and now can't handle him. spineless.

Tragic ! He is playing some incredible tennis this year. He was asked if his behaviour was a tactic yesterday. It is real pity . It's not a tactic. He just doesn't know how much of a xuckwit he is. The simple fact is if you did to him what he does to every other player you would have him on toast, he just can't handle it . 99% of tennis players wouldn't do it because they have far more class th their big toenails than Nick. Go and have a bathroom break for more than two minutes than the allowed time come out and wink at him and he is all yours.

I hope he does make it to a slam final. I can't see him winning one however. By far he is the most mentally weak player at any tournament he enters.

A waste of talent.

And yet sponsors keep backing him. 🤷‍♂️

fuzz, any idea who the sponsors for him are?if i knew, i'd send every one of them a note to tell them i won't ever touch them again unless they dump him.

as far as i can see, yonex, nike and something called beats. no idea what that so i suspect i am not their market. yonex do racquets? long time since i bought a tennis racquet and it is not on the horizon. nike? won't touch them again, though that probably win't send them broke.

i see both malaysian airlines and bonds have dumped him. both are now definitely on the agenda to sue/buy where possible.

He has just hooked up with Naomi Osaka in some sporting venture. He was her first signing. Not sure what it is or about.

well that makes sense. the easiest way in the world to advertise headphones would be to simply say put these on and you can't hear that toxic dump bleating.

She has created her own sports agency.

Osaka said Kyrgios embodies the type of athlete EVOLVE wants to represent, praising the Aussie’s “unmatched style, passion, and personality that is unlike any other in the sport”.

If that is the type of person she wants her company to represent, I wouldn't want to do any business with her.

Very well said.    composure is an attribute that very rarely seems to be front and centre when people are deciding who are the true greats and why.

I think tennis made it's bed when they retrospectively glorified McEnroe's antics, they affectively said intensely annoying brattishness is a part of game.

so, yesterday the knob was claiming all publicity is good publicity.

today, he is in hiding. instead of insisting that his practice sessions are in front of crowds, it is all private now, having been told he is due to face court for assaulting a former girlfriend.

congrats knob. you have done the impossible and sunk to even lower depths than one could imagine. not sure all this is quite as good publicity as he thought.

if i was his next opponent, i would be reminding him of this between every point. any luck, his head will explode.

The crowd will guaranteed . The stress will be more than his fragile mind can bare.

Has always been my point with him . Just don't watch his games. That said now more than ever this is his biggest test . And again more than ever people will watch him . Why ? well I can't wait to see what happens next. This is it we will actually truly see what he is made of.

Well. He has just been given a free pass into the final. I don't know if anyone watched Nadal's last match. His father and wife were pleading with him to stop playing. Somehow, somehow he found a way to win and he does it over and over. One more point one more game it ain't till it's over with him. He has huge heart.
