There is a VERY strange documentary about the weird arc of his life called “Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee”.  Anyone interested in a good true-life crime puzzle should check it out-  I think it’s streamable on Amazon.  I watched it more than once when it came out about 4 years ago.

The unfortunate dichotomy of most brilliant people!

That was my immediate reaction. I know the guy was crazy, but who off's themselves over tax fraud charges? He would have been extradited, then out on bail for the next several years while the case slowly worked its way through the system. He probably wouldnt have served much time, if any. A very weird end to a very weird life.

I'm no mental health professional, but that guy has been clinically nuts for a long time. Paranoia, psychopathy, who knows what else.

Money won't save you after all.

Has anyone else ever issued a statement like "if I suicide myself, I didn't".  Seems like it helped complete his story the way he wanted it to be completed.  Doesn't mean it's not possible for something nefarious to have occurred, it's just rather easy to put forth a future conspiracy theory on something a person could have complete independent control over, like suicide.

He was looking at a life time in prison.  I really do think he committed suicide.  Epstein; not so much.  McAfee was a pioneer and one-of-a-kind.  RIP.

The one professes that they'd never commit suicide is just like the one who says "you can trust me".

According to who? Directly from the federal indictment:

"If convicted, McAfee faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison on each count of tax evasion and a maximum sentence of one year in prison on each count of willful failure to file a tax return. McAfee also faces a period of supervised release, restitution, and monetary penalties."

That's 24 years, MAX. Almost all tax fraud cases are settled with a check and some sort of supervised release. Jail time is RARELY served. You're telling me he didn't have the roughly $4 million to pay off the feds, so he could go about the rest of his life?

This one is just as Fishy as Epstein to me.

They take your shoe laces from you when you go to the drunk tank for a few hours. How in the world are these prisons giving these guys the means to do this? Its not like its a new invention.

You seem to be missing a major difference - Epstein had dirt on tons of prominent people. There’s no evidence anyone actually wanted McAfee dead, or would even benefit from it.

I didn't miss it. He didn't have any dirt that we know of. I agree there where more people, with more motive to Kill Epstein. I don't think Mcafee had much motive either. You cant hang yourself in most US prisons (unless your Epstein) is it the same way in other countries, I wonder?

He was 75. He would have died before being released. And with no chance of not being convinced suicide makes sense. He was going to be made an example of for sure. No point in stretching things out.

Not the first and certainly not the last criminal scammer that the Castro regime protected because of the money they could squeeze out of him ...

Homer Simpson is a distant last with his 3 Trillion bill... 🙂
