Partagas Shorts or Petite Corona Especiales?

What is your preference and what differences have you experienced?

Looking to purchase on a promotion, both great prices.

Do you have any other minutos/ perlas? Always good to have some short smokes around in the 45-50 minute range.

You actually need them both.  This isn’t a case of either or, it’s a case of when you will add both to your collection.  Nothing is really comparable to the short.  It’s a cigar that is so many things to different people.  Best known for best lb for lb to so many people.

So you need them both.

I currently have a box 25 of Parti Shorts, never tried the Especiales. It’s a box 25x2 promotion with a price that’s hard to beat, and I really enjoy the Shorts so I’ll go with them.

Thank you for the input!

Shorts are a higher quality cigar. PCE/MF/SP/H/Tubes have always tasted like lower tier leaf to me.

Shorts become a completely different cigar with 10 years of age. I had a couple of 2011 boxes from FOH and young they were very harsh and punchy. The ones I have left are smooth, refined just fantastic. Time makes a difference even with small sticks.

Man, I love Party Shorts and they’re my go to smoke. I have five boxes, and I’m not sure any of the boxes would even last the year, let alone 10.  What’s the flavour profile of the aged Short?

This is an easy one for me: The PCE is like nicotine, wrapped with nicotine in a nicotine wrapper. No nuance, nothing but straight tobacco flavor. It is my bring-along for mornings in Havana, with a cup of coffee which I never drink unless outside the US.

Others would call this combo “draino”

Sounds like I’ll pass on the PCEs.

This is accurate

Partagas short isn’t the type of cigar I would wait out for 10 years tbh …but nothing wrong with that! ….if you’ve got 5 boxes let one go the distance

Yeah, I didn’t think it was the type to really bother with aging. The spot they fill for me is the go to stick where the box codes don’t matter that much, they’re consistently good, but they’re never going to be a transcendent smoking experience.

My "pecking order" on the smaller Partagas that I have tried:

Shorts > Aristocrats > Tubes > H > PCE > MF.    I have not tried SP.

Just had a Shorts this evening. I had forgotten how good they are! My example was Feb 2018, so a little down time but not a tremendous amount.

Again, I separate out the Shorts. I find the others have a much stronger family lineage as they were all formerly machine-mades converted to HM. The Shorts have always been a high-quality HM.

The opinions always seem to rotate in terms of which one is smoking best. A few years ago I know L'Amateur de cigare magazine gave the SP or MF very high marks. I used to think the SPE was hands down the best around 2005. Then MF peaked for a couple years, then the SP. The Habaneros is the one that never seems to get any love but I've found them comparable to the rest. I really don't smoke much of the small Partagas any more. The Shorts just aren't my personal preference either although they are high quality.
