Fezztone Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I saw some exchanges in the 24:24 chat about buying habits and buying boxes to smoke now and some to hold. Maybe even selling boxes on BR in a few years at a nice profit to fund more cigars or something else. I never looked at Cigars as an investment until I followed BR and it seems reasonable that you could make some money at it as a pastime. Then it occurred to me, there isn't a sole in my family that has active knowledge of what I have spent, potential future value, or the slightest inkling of what to do with the cigars if something unexpected were to occur. I have a very open relationship with my fiancé and kids, but do they really understand the investment sitting in my humidor? Not at all. I also don't broadcast, Hey honey, I just spent $900 on 25 cigars, we're so lucky! They tolerate my hobby but are conscientious objectors. Even if they did know thousands of dollars are sitting there, they would have no idea what to do with the collection. I guess I should list the cigars in my trust since I keep a spreadsheet of inventory and cost, but still, they would probably cremate me with them. Do any of you look at cigars as "assets" to educate the family on? For the record- I'm not planning on leaving any time soon. Damnit, I bet she will probably give them to the pool boy 3

I'd probably like to keep it that way until I die But jokes aside, probably best to leave that spreadsheet and some instructions for what to do if worst comes to worst. I might do it, sooner or later. For me my coolidors are in a good place, so all that would be needed is to open them once in a while and change the bovedas maybe once a year (probably not necessary that often, but can't hurt), until everything is sold. 2
Popular Post LordAnubis Posted February 19, 2021 Popular Post Posted February 19, 2021 My wife knows what i spend on cigars (well we share a credit card so she can see how much i spend), and knows they are valuable and hold value, but its probably never dawned on her how much total value of cigars i have. Her, and my brother have been told multiple times who to contact in case of my demise. There's even a post it note in my humdior with Dicko, Alex, West and Capuccio written on it incase they forget. 5

Habana Mike Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 As Mus mentions, it is a good idea to have one of your knowledgable best friends assigned as the executor of your collection. They should have some idea of value and how to liquidate the collection. <cough> Bond Roberts <cough> That or Smokey Mo will buy estate cigars. Please hope you can get them appraised in advance though. 3
Hammer Smokin' Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I don't have near the collection some of you have, but I'd be fine if my wife just sold all my cigars to friends online for well under what they are worth. If I had any type of prior notice, i'd likely gift them to my online cigar friends. 4
Meklown Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 She'll probably smoke them all and then curse me for not allowing her to smoke those fantastic sticks earlier ? I thought I read something on the forum a while back about contacting prez and he will try and help to sort something out. 2

Fosgate Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I don't think my wife wants to know. I just have a couple friends that I feel I can trust to help her sell them off in the event of my deminse. 1
Fuzz AI Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 I don't have to worry about my collection being chucked out or sold on the cheap. There's enough people over here who'll be fighting over my corpse, trying to get to my cigar and wine collection. ? 1

Then divide and conquer your cigars. Wine can go down the sink for all I care.
