El Presidente Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Read this and was wondering if True of False? "Under a new Golden State law signed this week by Gov. Gavin Newsom, machine-made cigars and handmade “premium” smokes costing under $12 can no longer be sold/ Cigars are only for the rich in California now."
Bijan Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 According to the wording of the law it seems it is only banning sales of flavoured cigars. So no flavoured cigars unless premium and over $12. http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200SB793 So probably some overpriced flavoured monstrosities can continue to be sold Hookah tobacco also excepted.
HarveyBoulevard Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Correct. Flavored cigars were the target...at least for now. I do love a slippery slope.
NSXCIGAR Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 All I'm seeing is regarding flavored products: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-08-28/california-bans-flavored-tobacco-products-sales-newsom-signs-bill%3f_amp=true
El Presidente Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 So flavoured cigars over $12 are fine 1
sirsmokes Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 They did this in NYC years ago. It’s to stop promoting brands like Dutchmaster that aren’t used to smoke the actual cigar, rather to re-fill with your own “tobacco”
Popular Post Plato Posted September 4, 2020 Popular Post Posted September 4, 2020 How am I supposed to unwind on Cali business trips without being able to purchase some of these bad boys? (I smoke it for the nuanced grape flavors of course) 6

I read the retail price would be estimated to be around $38 for a single which is pretty ridiculous. I not sure if there are any flavored cigars currently on the market at that price.

I am seeing some coffee flavoured cigars listed at over that price online. I feel like in the non cuban market anything you can think of someone is selling. Edit: Oops, definitely not for singles!

I’d assume given that it’s legal, the rationale is more so “flavored things appeal to children”, which, obviously contains its own fallacies, but I don’t think it’s to curb devil‘s lettuce ingestion
SansSin Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 so glad i didn't move to cali like i had planned to a few years ago? i'm not really a fan of flavored sticks but this sounds like it's gonna screw over all the drew estate acid lovers, which seems like the cigar that gets a lot of people into cigars

Unless they're paying ~$38 for them, they are on the chopping block. The cutoff is $12 wholesale price, not retail price.

I do see where they're talking wholesale prices so pretty much anything "considered" flavored will most likely be out between yhe keystone and taxes. And getting people to not get into tobacco is the goal...
NSXCIGAR Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 According to this report the use of flavored cigars decreases as the ages of the smokers decrease. Kind of the opposite of what they're trying to tell us. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-10-flavored-small-cigars-popular-kids.html

PigFish Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 ... try buying water or energy in California! Socialism has f’ed up everything in this state. It is a sanctuary for anyone but a taxpayer with a job.... 1
