As the draw poker and myself have been battling ferociously with this delicious Juan Lopez #2 for the past hour, I started to wonder - why is it that plugged sticks always seem to be bangers, taste-wise?  Is this perception - like the buttered side always landing face-down - or is there something in plugged cigars (like a tight roll) that lends itself to bolder and brighter flavor notes?  I can think of numerous occasions where the best-tasting cigar  in a box or sixer has been the plugged one.

This has been known for a long time - the higher the density of tobacco, the tastier the cigar.

That's the Occam's Razor answer, to be sure.  Was just wondering if others shared that same experience.

I do not share this experience in general. If it's really plugged the smoke output tends to be diminished for me.

I was going to say the same thing.  I get discouraged and find the cigar very unenjoyable if there is not a certain amount of smoke production.  When this happens, I personally don't feel as though I can taste the flavors enough..

Count me in this camp too.

. But assuming the plugged cigar has less smoke output, which in turn is less heat pulled thru the stick, and more time the smoke spends traveling thru the filler it might add to the flavor enhancement experienced

I always wondered if "removing the plug" would result in removing part of the blend, which in turn makes a cigar less tasty / taste different from what it's supposed to be?

That sounds feasible.

Everybody's experience is different, clearly, which makes me wonder if there isn't a certain amount of luck of the draw involved here (pun intended).

I love the scientific breakdown here, but I tend to lean toward the more philosophical side of this...could the desire of wanting the pleasure present the sensation?  What one cannot have, one covets that much more??

or perhaps even.....eff this, I’m not letting it defeat me?!

That was really the reason behind me asking the question in the first place.

From my pipe smoking experiences, too loosed packed tobaccos are not so tasty. I think the burning speed or temperature makes taste worse.
