    • A term applied to Australians who do not recognise or worship both the beer drinking and moustache growing prowess of former Tasmanian test cricketer David Boon.
    • A term created by and applied to activities by spin-off fandom groups of the George Costanza alter ego Art Vandelay.
    • Rowdy, unmannerly behaviour.

Some slight tweaks to the comp for 2020...

Every week we're going to have a poll about the definition of a forgotten or obscure word. From the four options pick the definition you believe to be the correct one. Voters who pick the correct definition go into the draw for an El Pres Sampler!!   (Drawn Tuesday morning, Brisbane time. Please note: Polls don't show on Tapatalk, but you can participate via a web version of the site)

NO GOOGLING OR DICTIONARY USE! We're using the honour system. It's just a bit of fun. If you know, you know. If you don't, have a stab in the dark or an educated guess (if you prefer that term). ;)

You may elaborate about your choice in the topic thread below if you wish but no posting of any official definitions, etc., that will give away the game for others.

Now you know the drill, vote away!  Good luck and may this comp prove to be a fun palaestra that turns us all into better word-grubbers, if you know what I mean...

Ok, I'm really going to have to stretch to use this word in a sentence, with the 4 potential definitions.

I can't even find a definition on Google but based on partial matches I definitely whiffed.

I so want the correct answer to be #1. But no matter which the correct answer is, my track record would indicate that I will be wrong.

Voted and then see I was with the majority. Based on my track record that must mean the majority is wrong.

Having been ousted from Tasmania for their great heresy, the followers of vandemonianism beached their vessel on the foreign sandy shore. And what a sight it was to behold! As far as the eye could see, rubber trees lined the shore and deep inland. The bare-lipped, Chardonnay swilling group leader marveled at the sight and thought to himself, "This must be the Great Southern Rubber Plantation of Vandelay Industries!". For only by the machinations of the vandemonianism could there possibly be a plantation of rubber trees on the cold southern coast.

Just then, a large group of short, balding men broke through the tree line. The squeaking, squelching sound of their puffy Goretex jackets barely drowning out their strange cries of "Serenity now!" and "The sea was angry that day, my friends!". As both groups squared off, tensions rose and the situation was surely to devolve into utter vandemonianism. Much like the time the two NAMBLA organisations were double booked into the same conference hall.

The aftermath of the rumble left the beach in such a state, it brought a tear to the eye of the vandemonianism. For he had traveled far to see the once majestic Vandelay Beach.

That was a wield guess, totally based upon how the word would sound in Portuguese. In other words, zero logic.

Did not read all the answers otherwise would have voted for #2. How many times do you get to vote for art vandelay.
