Does anyone else just watch the Bond Roberts Auctions?...12K for a Siglo VI GR WHAT??!!!

Recommended Posts

So Bond Roberts is out of my league but I do enjoy looking what gets posted. Holy mother of God .....12,000 USD for 15 cigars ?!?!? That's 800usd a pop and it's not even done there's 1 day left.

Does anyone else just window shop? I've learned there's a whole new level of cigar smoker that's completely out of my realm of possibility. I'd love to be friends with whoever wins this bidding war. They must have been the one hoarding all the behikes!

I love cigars, and especially this cigar.  And it is not like I haven’t done similarly frivolous things.  But at $1000 a cigar, I don’t know. If you told me I had to consume $1000 in 2 hours with

Sheikh Ken Gargett ? ???

I've been surprised at the bargains that have been had, there's been some absolute crackers floating under the radar.

Don’t forget to add the “tax” of 13.5% buyer fee on top of that. Makes it almost 1k a stick.

This the most expensive cigar ever sold??

If I remember correctly, singles of the original Behike were going for £5000.00 in London cigar terraces, and this is going back a good few years!

And from what I can tell, it seems to be two bidders thus far. Who they are is anyone's guess! Who knows? Perhaps Marvin Shanken (the publisher of Cigar Aficionado who famously paid $US575000 years ago for JFK's humidor gifted by Milton Berle), Michael Jordan or any number of members of the Royal family of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who weren't detained in 5-star hotels last year.

Hey John, can you explain why people are outbidding themselves 500 to 1000 at a time? Have seen it on other auctions as well. How does this happen?

The best explanation I can give is that it's probably a feature of the autobid function.

John is correct. User A has current bid 5000 with a max bid of 6000. User B places bid of 6005 so that jumps to highest bid current bid.

But then you will see a few seconds later User B who just bid 6005 will then outbid himself 1 second later at 6500 before user A has a chance to outbid? Am I missing something? Just trying to understand how it works.

In the scenario you describe User A has submitted a bid at 6505. So the system will record User B 6005 (current bid) then User B 6500 (Max bid amount) then User A 6505 (new highest bid)

Oh I see, makes sense now. Seemed like it was the auto bid function, thanks for the clarification.

Bond Roberts makes great viewing :D

I am not in the GR realm (congrats to the eventual winner!) but well done to those who picked up boxes such as the Punch Petit Punch this week. Some excellent under the radar boxes floating around.:ok:

Looking at the prices on BR, I feel like I should have bought every single lot on FOH auctions.

The good ol' days pre-expansion.  I knew the transition would bring additional customers/bidders and am thinking how good the FOH auction customers had it previously.  However, it is cool to have access to more global stock and from a seller standpoint it's great.

To me, the worst part of bidding/paying that much for a box of cigars is that I feel they'll never be smoked. Unless you have such deep pockets that it doesn't matter, how do you break a box that expensive?

Right?  I think I’d only smoke these if they were a gift. Hard to fathom that they could be as good as I would expect them to be at this level. But if my company gave them to me as a retirement present I’d happily smoke them.
