Popular Post SCgarman Posted February 1, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2020 Pulled the trigger on a box of these and it landed earlier in the week. BRE OCT17. Fired one up tonight. I must say it might make a suitable replacement for the PC albeit a bit larger ring gauge. Tons of Upmann flavor notes. Nutty, coffee, Cuban earth and a bit of shortbread in there also. The flavors really ramp up in the second half. The finish is very long and coats the mouth with wonderful Cuban flavors. Burn on this stick was fantastic with quarter stacking ash and required no touch ups with the lighter whatsoever. Beautiful Colorado/claro wrapper. I need several more boxes of these! 5
CptGoodTimes Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Right there with ya. BRE OCT18. Plan to add a box or two myself. 1
Mikeltee Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 If you like them now you will love them in 3 months when they are properly acclimated. They go on clearance here about once a month for dirt cheap. That's your chance to stay ahead of the game so that you can experience cigars like they are intended to be... which is properly acclimated You cant go wrong with JL1s&2s and connie 1s which all can be had for less than $200usd 1
NSXCIGAR Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Never thought of Connie 1 as anything similar to the HUPC, but I am a big Connie 1 fan. Unfortunately I haven't had any luck with mid-late 18 boxes, all BRE. They were remarkably consistent from late 16 to early 18 but might have hit a bit of a rut. I have some Q2 BRE 19s on the way to see if they've broken out yet or if I need to wait for BRE to die which should happen before the end of 19.

There must be plenty of BRE 17 out there as my supplier just shipped me a fantastic box. This cigar was even more full flavored than my PCs. Most of my PC boxes are LUB14s, so they have mellowed a bit from the younger mongrel stage.
shrink Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Can't anyone keep a secret? I've always found these cigars to be perfectly awful. Especially when aged. 2
rcarlson Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Love the Connie 1. Bang for the buck like almost no other. Whoops. I mean "avoid at all cost." Go deep on the Monte Open. ? 1

Is it the whole Open lineup? The online reviews are all good. Am I subjected to only sponsored reviews? They seem to be cheap, and they are described as mild. Are they just bland and boring compared to the rest of the Monte lineup or do they just plain suck?

PigFish Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Pretty funny. I smoked one of these today myself. Nice cigar. I had a real hankering for these in the 90's but they fell out of favor with me due to consistency issues. The good box/bad box blues! -Piggy
