Cigars You Would Age? (Taste,Collect,Value)

Fellow BOTL I’ve been wrestling with some choices in regards to thinking ahead and putting some box’s away to age.

......Let me start with to “his or her their own”, I know you must smoke a single first before you decide to put a box away and it’s all personal preference. Also in regards to “aging” I do understand you can over age cigars and then wind up with muted flavours.....

I do have 2 humidors - 1 for regular boxes that I will smoke aka Bolivar RC, Monte 4s etc / 2nd is for my collector boxes that I collect and some I age ex. Cohiba 1966, ELs etc.

That being said what box’s ( In your Opinion ?) would be best for putting down to age in terms of taste or appreciation in price or just to collect.

I’ve seen that the POR LARRANAGA - PETIT CORONAS SLB 50's have been a prized cigar when aged with both taste and resale value. Cohiba would seem like a good choice as there is always people wanting Cohiba and in terms of flavour the strength would mello and then blend given a longer time....?

So what else BOTL? Ideas..what would you put down???

For me, an aged Hoyo Epi2 box would be in my
Aging humidor. Good stuff!

Resale value is not calculated in any way, shape, or form for myself. I age what I like and what I think will only improve later on. Don't overthink it as that seems very common here. Most Cuban cigars do well with 3-5, some trail off after 5-7, some don't. Our taste buds change every few years too so there's that. My top 3 marcas for aging are Cohiba, Partagas, and Bolivar. But I love them fresh as well...

I’ve only been in this cigar appreciation game for a short 5 years, so my input is best taken with a healthy grain of salt. 
 

My MO thus far has been to amass early on, which will force “aging” in the years to come. I agree with everything @Derboesekoenig has said. I’ve never really considered any of my additions as investments, so nothing has been set aside as untouchable until a certain date. That said, I am certainly exercising restraint with several boxes of Cohibas based on the general consensus that they don’t shine until 5 years has gone by. But even so, I want to experience the evolution. 

So far, my experience has been that the fuller bodied marcas lend themselves well to time down: Bolivar, Partagas, and some H Upmanns. As do some of the more oily-wrappered PSP offerings. But your results may vary. I’m very much into the journey rather than the destination.

Buying CC since late 1980s, storing them and smoking occasionally my experience is as follows

Cohiba Esplendidos,Cohiba Lanceros,Cohiba Coronas Especiales middle to late 90s production age great. Love to smoke them, not too many left

All Siglo, with the exception of VI after 10-12 years lose most of their qualities

Other great aging cigars HdM Double Coronas and Punch DC. Have 20+ years boxes and everytime I smoke one of them is like heaven!

HdM des Dieux from 2003 mixed feelings

HdM du Roi from 2005 still very good smokes

Upmann 50 LE from 2005 excellent

Partagas only D4 and Charlottes seem to age well

Cigars that have a punchy tannic taste early on are good candidates for aging.

Cigars that have a limited run and/or special at the time of release are good values for aging.  The consumer is aware of the time period they were available and no longer is.  That could be discontinued cigars, regional's, or limited edition cigars.  Once they are gone; they're gone.  Cigar smokers are quite sentimental or reminiscent of the cigars that are no longer easy to source.   Those may not have even been fancy cigars.  They use to give away Punch Royal Selections and now they're collectors trophy, lol...  Ramon Allones coronas were just a regular cigar and now command serious dollars...

Personally I am a 50 cab whore because, in my opinion, tobacco on tobacco in that quantity turns out incredibly, over time. 

My top 5 for aging that are in current production are as follows. All for taste, any appreciation would be icing on the cake:

1. Cohiba Lanceros

2. Sir Winstons

3. Party 898

4. Mag 46

5. PLPC 

On a side note, I have found EL aging to be generally disappointing. 
 

Finally, a lot of my opinions on this have been impacted by MRN’s experiences. I started a spreadsheet of superlatives from his encyclopedia regarding aging. I will try to get this finished up soon to share with this forum.

Bro... they are crazy good!!! A buddy hooked me up with a 10er of some '12s for like $20. I have since bought up every aged box I come across. They are stupid cheap and if you luve up north they are the perfect winter cigar. I dont know what it is about the PL aging magic but I have experienced it in every vitola that I have had. The funny thing is I can't stand any of them fresh or even a couple years old.
