Been smoking for maybe 2 years now. I feel like cigars just don’t taste as good as they used to. I take regular breaks, days or  weeks at a time. Only smoke one cigar a day on days that I do. Always switching up and rotating cigars brands, styles, sizes. Have recently smoked many fancy REs, LEs, rare, vintage and regular production  cigars... I don’t know, just feel like I’m not wowed by cigars the way I used to be. It’s really bumming me out.

Maybe I need to take a few weeks off. A few months off? That would not be fun. I always look forward to the times I get to smoke a cigar but find myself let down more often then not these day

this ever happen to anyone else?

It has, but a few days usually takes care of things and “resets” my taste buds. If you’ve really taken weeks off and the flavors haven’t come around, perhaps try some different sticks. NC’s, full flavor or dare I say flavored cigars to see if that changes things up enough. You can always come back to what you’re smoking now down the road. Good luck!

I smoke several cigars a day. Rarely do I get a chance to sit down and contemplate the cigar. To me, that is the magic...  Diagnosing what I am experiencing. When I smoke a stick, there's nothing magical about it. It just tastes damn good and satisfies me. Whether that satisfaction comes from overcoming nicotine withdraw or it comes from me being able to do what I want at that moment and take a break from responsibility, it's hard to tell. I highly enjoy anytime I get a chance to light up a stick no matter if it's a magical experience or not. They are my break from life. If I too were to take a break from cigars, I would feel as if I was not able to take a break. Our lives might be different though. I have 4 young, lazy kids, a full time job and I am a full time engineering student.

Enough about me. Sit down and contemplate the cigar. If you are too distracted to do so, than don't worry about it. That magic will return when it's good and ready. Maybe switch up to some NCs for a spell so you realize what you are missing. I do understand where you are coming from. I've been married to the same woman for a long time........

Second this, try an NC or two, or explore NCs for a bit then come back.

Been in it 100% for about 4 years now and have not had this issue. Only smoking Cubans as well. Seems like there might be an underlying reason that might be causing this and not the cigars themselves. Unless your way of storing them affects their flavors that much. Who knows. Lots of variables

I weant through the same thing a few years ago and I changed toothpastes. I couldn't believe it actually made a difference but it did. I went with Biotine toothpaste because it doesn't have the Sodium-laurel-sulphate or whatever the substance is that is in normal toothpaste as well as laundry detergent etc etc. Anyways, i can't remember what it is about it but it worked well. I also tried switching up beverage choices and trying different pairimgs out to make things a tad more entertaining.

I only smoke 2 days a week on average so that might have a lot to do with the fact that i have never really lost the magic as you say...maybe try taking a break and then taking days off when you do come back to it.

Personally I enjoy my cigar time as a nice way to wind down after a day. I occasionally "lose it" like you mentioned when I am too stressed out on certain things (e.g. work worries, etc), and I find that during those times I am not enjoying my cigar and winding down, but instead "stress-smoking" like a cigarette smoker would. Those times will pass, life sorts itself out, and I will be able to enjoy my cigar time again as normal.

It's probably best to break it down to what did you enjoy about CCs in the first place? Just simply the taste? The experience of smoking something new? A time of quiet in your life? And whatever your answer to that question, the reason why you lost the magic would likely be because you lost that reason.

Maybe you don't have to post on this forum if you don't feel comfortable, but is something bothering you in your current life? Have you maybe lost something recently? Getting over that would likely be the solution to your CC problem.

All the best!

Strange never had this problem. I always liked chasing the dragon of the perfect cigar. I do take breaks and when I do I love coming back to a great cigar. Maybe your searching too much. Maybe smoke what you like when you feel like it. Maybe to much searching and not enough enjoyment of what you've already discovered is the problem. This could go in so many directions - I don't think there's a straight answer.

There was once I asked myself, why the hell am I even smoking cigars? What am I suppose to do with everything that I've bought? This tastes so bad! I shouldn't have started this hobby. Maybe I don't really like smoking any more. But it was when I was smoking an NC cigar ???

This happens to me from time to time. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood but I smile anyway. Sometimes I don’t have the time to smoke a Churchill but I do anyways. Could be that I was getting over a cold. Or something earlier that I ate/drank.

I’ve been mostly smoking shorter and thinner these days which has solved the majority of the emotional issues I might encounter.

Hate to be the Johnny to spoil the party, but it occurs to me that I'd you dont enjoy smoking anymore, you should just stop. Your cigars will still be there when you feel like trying again.

Lots of good suggestions, this is too and was kind of my thinking as well. Sometimes there is no good reason. I love all kinds of crazy beers and have been there with that hobby/vice. Never could pinpoint what undid it, but it was undone, several times now. Things will turn again.

I agree with this. It has happened to me. Try a Padron .80th Anniversario and a Cohiba Robusto. If they do not have strong distinguishable flavors, it is time to step back for awhile.

Quick questions. Do use little/average/large quantities of salt when you cook your own food? Prepared foods don’t count, as they are heavily salted/flavored. What about spicy? Garlic?

I find this happens to me when winter comes. No more outdoor leisure time.  Or if I’m kind of bored with my aged boxes. I have boxes of: boli PC/Sancho panza NP/ PL montecristo/ fonseca delicas that all have years of age on them, but even with great aged sticks to smoke, I’m always wanting something different.

I can get bored with the cigars I have and just like to smoke something new.  That could mean selling my aged boxes that are not my most favorite to get something new in the cabinet.
