Ah Punch.  When there's only 5 cigars left in your portfolio, there's really no better starting points than the Punch Punch and DC.  Punch, overall I find there are in the mild/medium bodied profile with some unique tasting notes.  Peanut butter and chocolate.  And with age, they just get better.  Were they still around, I'd recommend the Ninfa over the DC as a "start".

I really enjoy punch (having a DC right now). I think the punch punch can be a bit hit or miss for some but either are a good starting place

Punch as a marca can induce strong emotional responses from longer-term members on account of the 23 deletions since the early-2000s. You aren't going to go past the Punch Punch and Punch Double Corona due these reasons...

  1. The Punch Coronation and Petit Coronation are not considered 'top tier' options in the Punch line
  2. The recent Short de Punch doesn't have a track record yet amongst enthusiasts as it's only just become available
  3. The Habanos Specialist release from 2016, the Punch 48 is a good cigar but not the place to start

Yes, Punch has been decimated but at least it has seem a small resurgence in the last 5 years or so. Two Limited Editions, one addition to the regular production line, a Habanos Specialist release and five Regional Editions in 2018 alone attest to that. So, @cbenham73, you've got some options once you try the Punch Punch (and/or Punch Double Corona).

N.B. The Punch Double Corona may not be as easy to source currently. Double Coronas, and there are only 4 left, tend to go into and out of hiatus more often than other regular production cigars.

I’ve had several Punch Punch Tubos and singles which were consistently mild-medium, nice flavors and very good construction. I think the mildest CC I’ve had to date. I would definitely smoke more of them

Agre with John of course, but don’t ignore the Coronation/Petite Coronation.   Dip your toes with the aforementioned Punch Punch and Double Corona, but try the other two.  I keep the Coronaton on hand because I like that snappy twang I get every time I light one even if it lacks the complexity of a much larger DC.

I have to agree with @JohnS that the tubos aren't really using the best raw materials. Great if you like them, but I have to call it like I see it. I will say I think the PC is the better of the two.

As far as the OP, I think the DC is Punch's best. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner to cigars but for a smoker who just hasn't had a Punch yet that would be my recommendation.

As a side note the Short de Punch are getting good reviews but from what I've seen appear to be on the stronger side and would therefore not be a cigar I'd recommend to anyone not familiar with Punch or CCs.

A DC is too big for your first Punch. I love the marca and I still get bored half the time I’m smoking one.

My recommendation is Punch Punch - if you like that, try the other few remaining in the lineup. Petit Coronations are actually my favorite of those.

Punch 48 is very good but watch out for underfilled sticks.

Haven’t tried the new small one yet - I refuse to pay $13 for this size regular production cigars.

I want to try a Ninfa at some point but they are so difficult to find. Discontinued nearly 20 yrs ago?

Find a Punch Corona, Punch Petit Corona del Punch, or a Punch Petit Punch. That will tell you all you need to know about the Marca.

Sooooo Punch Punch essentially ("corona") because all those other ones were discontinued again, nearly 20 years ago.

Punch Punch is as close as you can get with current production, but poor comparison to the three I mentioned.  And they have been available much more recently than that.  PCdP and PPP have been available for reasonable prices on FOH Auctions, and were discontinued in either 2009 (PC/PPP) or 2012 (PCdP).  So 10 years or less. :)

I have smoked 1/2 box of Punch Punch ('18) and like them well enough to have another box resting and one on the way.  Last week, I received another box of Punch Petit Coronations which have not been opened.
