Rhinoww Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 A good friend gifted me a box of My Father Flor de Las Antillas Robustos. It’s been a long time since I looked at the bottom of a box of NC. Did not realize there were manufacturers who were following the Cuban approach to stamping. sticks looked decent. The cellophane wrapper not so much. 2
Cairo Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Don Pepin smokes have the date stamp on the bottom of the boxes.
SmokinNukie Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Those are nice NC’s. In my list of 5 go-to smokes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3
Cayman17 Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Very nice gift. Can’t go wrong with MF cigars 2
mrmessy Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Nice sticks! Most don't put date stamps still. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
SCgarman Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Wow. The bottom of the box almost resembles a Cuban box. Even with a date stamp! It has been years since I bought a NC box of cigars. The desire is no longer there.

It has been years since I bought a NC box of cigars. The desire is no longer there. I imagine you're a pretty experienced cigar guy as I recall seeing you around for a long time but I will say this. For the longest time I have been so against noncuban cigars because I just remember them from the 90's, and as much as Pete Johnson wants to talk about how great cigars were back then and that something was lost along the way, I certainly wasn't living in the same universe as Pete was, because cigars sucked back in the 90's for the most part when compared to what's out there today. Noncuban, tobacco whether it comes from Dom. Rep. , Honduras, or Nicaragua...has come leaps and bounds since then, and I will say that the divide between Cuban cigars and noncuban cigars is getting very, very narrow. My eyes have been opened and I am surprised at the quality and flavor on some noncubans today. To each his own, but figured I'd throw that out there. We are definitely in the golden age of cigars. Or at the very least, the second golden age. Probably the first was back at the turn of the century 1890's - 1920's, as far as quality tobacco and number of choices one had when walking into a cigar store, but then I wasn't alive back then but this is what I get from the research I've done myself. 1
WABOOM Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Nica Libre dates the box now too. Not as nice as those My Father, but I thought it was pretty neat.
bbguardsp Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 They prefer cellophane mostly to avoid breakage during shipping. Even Warped cigars now has cellophane on a lot of their lines they didn't previously because of retailers complaining about breakage. Every time I open a box of NCs without cellophane at work it's a special moment because you just don't see it much anymore. 1

I used to love these. Like a cheaper version of a 1964 if I remember right. I trust they must still be good since you're buying them?

akpreacher Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 I’m sorry but respectfully this is a dumb statement ....this label is a complete imitation lol are you serious ? This 20ct box I got for $30 after shipping. They are super consistent in construction and flavor.

It might simply be a rip-off. Or maybe they're trying to get back something they feel was taken from them - don't know. Personally, I'd prefer all these producers disassociate themselves from Cuba completely. But I imagine that if you are from there and have pride in your heritage, that might be easier said than done. 8 hours ago, crking3 said: I’m sorry but respectfully this is a dumb statement . anjimj Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 Tatuaje box dates as well in honor of the Cuban traditions.
BuzzArd Posted November 17, 2019 Posted November 17, 2019 Tatuaje boxes are all dated as well, but then With his relationship with Pepin that makes sense. I like knowing when my cigars were rolled. 1

lovethehaze Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 These r still a favorite of mine. Great cigars.
