I have a box of May 2014 Genios.  I don't have the factory code because I tossed the cardboard packaging long ago and spaced on marking the code. They are good cigars.  But the problem I have is that the Maduro wrapper seems to overshadow the traditional flavors I associate with a good cohiba.  (For me that's a white pepper and bourbon sweetness). Thus the overall flavor profile becomes muddled in my opinion.  As I mentioned, I like the cigar....its s deep and rich. But I don't really detect cohiba in its DNA.  Do FOHers out there have an opinion on the Cohiba Maduro?

I love them.  They smoke really well young and I'm excited to see them age.  Different profile than cohiba, different than LE.  I almost get a rich mushrooms kick from them.  A lot of rich Forrest floor with some sweetness.  Love the partagas ones too.  I know there's hate and they aren't the normal Cuban flavors but they provide a unique profile I haven't seen in other Cubans or non Cubans.  One of the Staples of my humidor

The insane pricing has kept me from these. Not a massive Maduro fan anyways, but yea. The Partagas No.1s are good, but they taste an awful lot like BBFs at about 1.6x the cost.

I love them too.  I don't get typical Cohiba flavors, but the flavors are pretty unique among cubans, to my palate anyway.  I have a box of Secretos that has been excellent,  mineral flavors, dark rye, lots of cream.  And the couple Genios I've had have been similar but with the addition of some chocolate.

The price/value is definitely a hurdle.  Much as I love them, I have not gone deep on any.

The price for the Partagas Maduro has come down a bit since 17 but it's still higher than I'd pay even if I liked them a lot which I don't. However there are several cigars that are priced about the same that people readily buy like HU RR, Trini Vigia, Monte Dumas.

As far as the Cohiba Maduros the prices weren't that bad but I hadn't checked in a while and it seems they're much higher than they had been outside of the Secretos which is about the same price as Siglo I by weight. The Magicos and Genios seem to have really jumped a bit and no, I'm not paying more for either than CoRo or Siglo V.

I enjoy maduros generally but feel like the Partagas 1 is missing something...don't know what but I feel like it needs an extra layer of complexity.

The couple of genios that I've tried, I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely different from the traditional Cohiba profile, but I really enjoy them.  I find the Genios to be decent but a bit muddled.  I love the Secretos.  Construction, flavor, nuance all much better than the Genios for me.  Powerhouses young, but complex with a few years.  I'd give a Secretos a try if you can before closing the door on the whole Cohiba Maduro line.
