Celebrating a smooth day. I don’t often get to enjoy such lengthy moments and it is rare I allow myself to imbibe. As the dew cleared I had the feeling the day would be uneventful it was a perfect time to whip up a batch of my Sangria. My mouth watered as I watched it marinate throughout the day. And as the sun was setting I reached for a current favorite, the Mag 46.

Glorious. A potpourri of flavors in this batch. A consistent woodiness throughout with various interruptions of dark fruit sweetness and a citrus peel zest. A spicy, cinnamon like liquorish texture just added to the enjoyment. The body remained consistent. Thick but not much over medium.

The cigar was delicious too.

Cheers

I had a birthday aged Party Short Thursday, but this morning I was killing time waiting for football to start and decided I'd go out on the back porch and enjoy the one from the first box I ever bought for myself - the trusty HUHC.

A tad tight.  The draw was fine, but it just felt ... packed, for lack of a better term.  I'll admit my palate isn't nearly as refined as many here, I can't yet get subtle flavors across the thirds.  To me it tasted like an H Upmann.  Now that I'm 6 months or so in my CC journey, I've had the luck to enjoy several different of this marca, and I had originally chosen HUHC as my cheap and cheerful, and ideally regular "normal" smoke.  I can tell you things it wasn't - there wasn't the cocoa and cream I got my a montecristo a couple of weeks ago.  Definitely no cherry like I've gotten from RyJ sampled abroad.  To me it was an extremely enjoyable 30-40 minute smoke sitting on the back steps wondering where all the rain was.  It was what cigars have become for me - a way to slow down, sit and watch the trees grow and slowly puff and watch the smoke and savor life.  That's what it was.

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Personal Reserve “The Mans 80th” Robusto: core is a familiar fuente taste which is clearer and more prominent here, along with the fuente anejo profile, overall smooth not peppery. Complexity includes cedar, milk chocolate, mild sweetened cream coffee, graham cracker, an occasional lingering sweetness finish, pepper lightly made a two herf appearance then was forever gone, yes some bitterness and bitter chocolate towards the end, off putting and interesting at the same time. The bitterness wasn’t present in first two thirds. Medium flavor, medium nicotine, ramping up at the last third.  Tight draw, well compressed leaves in head and foot.  One soft spot near head noted, when pinched, burn evened out. 92/100 - ideally complexities would be more bold and obvious, but they were enjoyable. Would gladly smoke again (good thing because there are two handfuls in the humidor.)

If it’s not too late I’ll play....

It’s my Birthday, It’s my Birthday!   So I couldn't help but go with a favorite. BCG has yet to let me down.  And I have a good bit of time to enjoy it this afternoon....  Just fired up, but looking forward to the complex, mushroomy goodness I always find here. Expecting viscous, palatte coating smoke with lots of herbal notes and excellent construction.   At least, that’s what the first 1/4 of this box has provided in the past.

To my other BOTL I see enjoying birthday smokes, I tip my hat.

Wish me luck.

Was a very special day today. Played golf with my brother, mother and father who turned 70 today.

I thought it would be special to lite up a My Father le bijou 1922, in honour of him. This cigar was #1 cigar of the year in 2015. Nice sweet chocolate notes, earthy with rich toasted tobacco notes. Not much pepper which is surprising as it is a signature note for Pepin Garcia the blender.

Had a great day on the golf course with my dad and a nice surprise dinner at the club right after. 2ccf3ed42b6cf367cee5a8a6c2dc9948.jpg

Spent some time at the local B&M over the weekend watching football. My wife with an Epi 2. Nothing sexier than a gal smoking a cigar! Screenshot_20180918-114605.thumb.png.ef0e3792cc295b3e2433ec45880ea6f9.png

Down in the Kangaroo Valley this weekend. Everyone else went on a bushwalk, I decided to stay back and continue my Cuba trip training.

No need to fix, I think you’ve captured the essence of Down Under brilliantly in those pics. Your cigar line-up’s not too shabby as well.
