Those sessions are solid gold - have played them endlessly while sipping moonshine in the TN hills. "You Are My Sunshine"??? C'mon...

When I meet folks that hate Dylan, I break that stuff out and listen to the "Yeah, but, well, OK, that's pretty good..."

Excellent. Working in Manchester and staying near the old Free Trade Hall.

In all the years I’ve worked here, I never realised that it was the scene of Dylan’s infamous “Judas!” heckle.

I saw an interview from the guy that called him judas (about 5yrs ago somewhere).  He lives in Canada now I think. Anyway he said, he never lived it down, and still feels stupid.

Haha, Check this out.   'Judas' is a nice intellectual barb, but it doesnt beat "Bob Dylan was a bastard in the second half"  Good northern lads.  Saying it like it is.......or how it was

Some people cannot get past his voice (and cannot appreciate neither the depth to the lyrics nor the fact that Bob Dylan helped bring Woody Guthrie to a younger generation). These folks typically have an awful taste in music, so I'm content to smile to myself subtly and enjoy the waves of superiority that wash over me.

I'm with Bowie: "a voice like sand and glue"

I think he sometimes sounds like someone blipping a two-stroke engine.

That’s a good thing, by the way. ?

Apparently (on his death bed) Gurthie (on being asked about Dylans potential future) he said like

“That boy’s got a voice. Maybe he won’t make it with his writing” ......Ha!

Just a quick throttle pulse.  Like you'd do with a dirt bike.

As @scap99 says, it is quick throttle on/off input. In two-strokes, it helps ensure that the engine doesn’t seize up (which can happen on a closed throttle, as the oil is mixed in with the fuel), and in four-strokes it’s useful for matching revs to engine speed to ensure smooth gear downchanges.

Dylan always reminds me of the two-stroke blip. It’s a very cool sound. ?

Interesting. See, I've always thought he sounded like a hippie taking a crap, but only in the best way!

i suspect that might be a smidge of an urban myth, like so much about dylan (and which he seemed happy to encourage when it suited).

if nothing else, a bloke is on his deathbed and someone wants to know his thoughts on another singer?

it was extraordinary that he overcame so much with his voice - thanks to what he was saying, i believe.

i was wondering what would happen with a dylan equivalent today - someone with a, shall we say, less than stellar voice (he ain't going to win any of those idiotic reality shows). but then i thought that pretty much 90% of today's singers sound like crap to me. i may not be the most unbiased of judges.

Yep, I can definitely see the shoddiness of this story. Especially as Dylan had himself lied about a hole bunch of other stuff, i.e the hobo, rogue-ish lifestyle of riding the freight trains he wanted people to believe, when in fact apparently little to none of this happened.

Regardless of what anyone says about Dylans voice, I think he's brilliant. I think an important thing about his voice is that often with, say blues and country singers the broken, or off note, often communicates emotion, and for me his voice, specifically because of it's fragility, and difficult straining, frames his lyrics perfectly.

I find it interesting that Dylans Harmonica playing is also challenging and difficult to deal with, Its a bit like viewing Francis Bacons paintings, it puts the audience in a difficult spot, where the more brutal, basic and honest aspects of the human make up, are laid bare to gaze at............for me Neil Sedaka cant quite do this

Incidentally, Not sure if you've ever heard this cover of It's all over now baby blue by 'Them'.   Absolutely brilliant in my humble opinion

Could be true, though. Woody and Dylan were friends and I believe Dylan had a hand in influencing Arlo Guthrie. Would love to even read a transcript of the Guthries hanging out with Mr Zimmerman.
