El Presidente Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 This brought a smile to myself. This is also why you need to get out of Havana when you visit Cuba. Have a great weekend! 4
shrink Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 This is a really nostalgic and romantic notion of how great country-grown and roasted coffee could be. But it probably tastes like shit. 2

I like to buy Cuban Turquino Lavado from the Algerian Coffee Stores in London -- utterly rich and full-flavoured, it's a really good bean to use for the breakfast espresso!

The best cup of Coffee I've ever had was at the Coffee Finca that "Protected" the path to Fidel's hide out in the Sierra Maestra. Roasting the coffee over an open fire gives it an amazing wood smoke flavor. The "sun drying" he mentions often happens in the road as shown below. I guarantee its like no cup you've ever had. As Pres mentioned, you need a lot of sugar because they make it STRONG. Starbucks it ain't. The Sierra Maestra are absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend the Hike to Comandancia de la Plata and Pico Turquino. Its just not the same without the chickens: IMG_7434.MOV 3

Does that not give the coffee a delicious note of diesel exhaust fumes?
Baccy Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Omg... he torched those beans smut black ...but I would almost guarantee it's still better than $tarbucks! 1
madandana Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 I love this. The only problem is, by the time the coffee is done it's lunchtime. Now......How do they make the donuts?

It's a possibility, but traffic is VERY light on that road, just the national park vans taking hikers to the trail heads. As @Baccy said, they roast the beans so long/dark that not much "outside" flavor has a chance to get through anyway.
helix Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 That was a definite Dark Roast .LOL! Would be more to my liking in a lighter roast . 1
dgixxer252525 Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Pres the videos you post like this take me back to the old stories my grandfather used to share with me about growing up on the island. We are taking him back in May for the first time in 48 years...

My wife and I have gotten utterly hooked on Serrano coffee. We don't always agree on favorites, but this coffee wins it for us.
Ethernut Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 This is beyond dark roast.. beyond French roast. beyond Vienna. Damn near charcoal and ignition. Would love to give it a go though!
GWG Posted April 7, 2018 Posted April 7, 2018 This would truly redefine your morning smoke, picking a cigar to go with that would be most interesting.
