Would anyone be kind enough to share which factory this is, and any comments?  Can't seem to find any info out there whatsoever.  Thanks in advance!

I have a box of the new HDM Elegantes from ALO from our host.  They look nice, but I am giving them the recommended 6-12 months down before sampling.

Thanks, don't think it's AMO  definitely, ALO.  Regional factory, not terribly comfortable buying Esplendidos from anywhere except El Laguito.

Really? A churchill is not a particularly demanding shape. I might not want a Lancero from another factory, but an Espledido should be just fine.

Is it Montecristo Especiales you're looking for?

It should be the same leaves... unless you're worried about storage in travel to and from the factory... ?

I think MEL is Laguito.

I have esplendidos from MEL 2015. Not reputed as Laguito, but the sticks are crazy good.

So I guess I am not right. I thought it was a 2017 code.

I have Montecristo No. 2's and Upmann No. 2's both from MEL and both 2015.

If I am going to spend that kind of money on a box, why not get the best and source a box of El Laguito? Costs the same and chances are a better roller rolled it

Thank you all for the input, I decided to just buy two boxes, can't pass these up as the prices are good.

What's the worst that can happen ?

Definitely not the same leaves.  I was in a discussion maybe a year ago about RyJ Churchills from 2 different factories from year 2014.  One factory's cigars started mild and just built and built in flavor to a towering crescendo; the other factory's cigars came out of the gate swinging and were clearly superior.  Assuming equal construction and time between delivery and boxing (ha!), the only difference could have been the leaves used.

Of course not the "same" leaves, but the same basic provenance, quality and blend. Heard about consistency issues in CCs before? ;)

Mother factory and its subsidiary production places are on principle and - if you so will - "theoretically" using the same stuff for a certain production run. It may be the case that when there is a switch in one tobacco-batch (e.g. one month / year's raw tobacco to the next or swithcing between different fermentation batches, hell even individual bales), that the different places are receiving different batches and/or are working with or running out of those respective qualities sooner or later. So it is not at all unlikely to expect a certain amount of variation, even when produced during the same time period.

The very effect that you are describing you can very well experience with boxes coming with identical codes.

Anybody figure out which factory ALO is? I noticed my H.upmann half coronas from tins of 5 are from there in NOV 16, but also RA Haxagone, and RA Terra magica regionals in DIC 16, and RA XXL regional JUL 16. Obviously a factory that rolls a lot of Ramons, or at least regional Ramons.

So much for that. @hababa
