This week enjoyed a 1963 RyJ Cazadores and a 1985 Davidoff #1 that smoked beautifully. Constant humidity, temperature and darkness is IMO the key. Hey Reid is that you?... Long time no see brother! -Ray

PigFish Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Photo reactivity, air purity (smog, nascent oxygen, and other reactive molecules) can and must certainly play rolls. All above my pay grade!!! -LOL The question is are they positive or negative roles? -Piggy
CrankYanker Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Is there a thought of dropping rh% slowly with different humidor setups as they come off the truck? So lets say ROTT you put them in a 69% humidor. A month or two later they go to 65% the a two to three months they go to 62% and then to 60% if that's what you like. Just a thought out there. Also Piggy you state PMC could be felt with weight. Have we done an expierment where we weigh Cubans in different climates?

Hollywood Ninja Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 How do you get it that low?I use 58% Boveda packs that get me to right around 60%-62%. No burn issues and no dry boxing needed. Sent from my SM-G996U1 using Tapatalk
Tstew75 Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 62 is def on the low end of that ideal range, but I betcha sticks smoke great right out of the humidor.
Capn_Jackson Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I have my wineador full of 62% Bovedas, and the rh is sitting pretty at about 64%, which is good by me.
HarveyBoulevard Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 7 hours ago, Doublesh0t said: How do you get it that low? If you live in a high rh region, I can see how it might be difficult. Keeping sticks dryer than the exterior humidity would seem to be more difficult. I live in an area where it is usually below 20% rh so keeping it up is the hard part (everyone just shut up...) I use 65% Boveda and keep an open water source in my desktop and it usually hangs around 62% which is where I like to smoke them. My coolidors have desiccant beads and stay rock solid around 67%.
Webbo Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I personally think that controlling rH is an easier prospect than controlling temperature. For humidity there are a number of relatively low cost solutions whereas temperature (specifically keeping below 70F) is much more expensive. If you don’t have a cellar or cool area then a refrigerator unit is the only option. As humidity and temperature are inextricably linked if you have an ambient temperature higher that is more than 70f it becomes a significantly more complicated equation.
