dangolf18
Does anybody here risk placing boxes in their checked luggage? I personally would be too afraid I'd get a few cracked sticks. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? Might sound fairly obvious and maybe I'm missing something but why not carry-on? While I haven't done it with boxes, I do it with my traveldor and don't get any questions. If you are afraid put plastic bublle inside the box.
LLC
When I'm coming back from Cuba I normally have a carry on size suitcase or duffle bad stuffed full of boxes of cigars. Last thing I want to do is risk having my bag "lost". If I can't fit everything in the carry on, I'll put customs in my checked bag. Just make sure the cigars are nice and tight in the boxes so when the baggage smashers at the airport practise their shot-putting skills the sticks cannot move. I also take care to pack mine in the middle of the suitcase, sandwiched between clothes for extra shock absorption.
Lotusguy
Why would it be any different from when boxes are shipped by mail?
semifan1
Just get on of those hard suitcases with the plastic if worried.
ebhead
I split purchases between carry-on and checked. Minimizes the risk of questions, or being pulled into the room, by Cuban customs. I've done this three times coming from Cuba. No issues so far.
GrouchoMarx
Our luggage is the hard shell type. My last trip to head office was back in december, with multiple boxes tucked in comfortably. No problemo.
Optic101
Always check all of them. As mentioned, it is about preparation and location.

I was thinking the same thing but most vendors will replace cracked sticks and usually place some bubble wrap in the boxes. I guess I could do the same. Bartolomeo
Wrap boxes in checked bags with your dirty laundry along w heavy items such as ashtrays, have a carry on bag with other cigars and their paperwork......voila, no issues!
Randy956
Cigars with my dirty undies?? Well if that what it takes, then I guess it's worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Duxnutz
Always pack gallon size zip locks and a few bovedas on my travels, including Cuba. Ironically I'm only worried about checking in cigars leaving the States, due TSA and their common grubby hands in your bag seemingly every flight ex US.

Randy956
I've found that checking, as opposed to carrying on, sometimes has an adverse effect on the immediate smokability of the cigars. Something about the difference between the cabin and the cargo hold would be my guess. It's remedied by a "rest period" the same as newly receivedcigars from overseas, so not a huge deal. If they are packed in airtight containers that should not affect the cigar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
PaulP
I would be concerned with theft on checked luggage. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/top-20-airports-tsa-theft/story?id=17537887
cigarbigboy
I have placed them in checked baggage many times with no problems. Heck, probably the postal service was rougher on them sending them to me from the Presidente.
