HarveyBoulevard Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Such a great movie and I could hardly tell that apart from what I saw on the news last night... 2
luv2fly Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Rob, you are right on the money! Love the Airplane reference. My wife wants wants to know why I am on the floor laughing.
... Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 What if the guy had been able to put up a fight? Would the have tazed him, shot him or else? It's a crazy world we live in where United (amongst others) will overbook a flight and make customers suffer the consequences. It just seems like accountability is a dying value nowadays ? 1

Popular Post Corylax18 Posted April 11, 2017 Popular Post Posted April 11, 2017 "United, F**k You." Haha The real Icing on the cake: They booked the flight perfectly. the 4 slots they needed were for United employees. Not even paying customers. First they make a mistake, Fine. To remedy that mistake they get the tough to come drag a guy off the plane, in front of 150 people with cameras. United will clearly eat the brunt of this, but its an indicator of the direction society in general is travelling. 6

clutch5150 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Yea BIG news in the States. If I were that doctor who got lumped up, my reply to the CEO of United saying publicly to he wants to talk with me....I'd raise my hand and state, "talk to the hand, I'm in my attorney's office at the moment, looking over new Ferrari's"... 4

Heard they weren't United employees, but Republic Airline employees (United contracts out that flight to Republic). Regardless, disgusting behaviour.
archosaur Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 What a pathetic job of handling this. Abject failure. Their PR people will have a fun time digging out of this one. 1
Guest Nekhyludov Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 The funniest/saddest part of this whole lousy saga so far? United posted a job for a Public Relations Manager 21 hours ago. I'm sure it will attract many, many highly desirable candidates https://districtdaybook.com/jobs/yu3EFswSjDAGAyhCr
jwr0201 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Hope the guy dials 1-800-ask gary! Sues the crapola out of them. Absolutely appalled that an innocent passive passenger could be physically injured like that. Hope the guy gets millions! 1

Baldy Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 $328 million is light. United only did a proper apology after their share prices plummeted. I hope they lose millions more. 1

PapaDisco Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 All United had to do was keep raising the compensation amount. At some point a hand will go up. Even if they had to offer $1,000 it's a helluva lot cheaper than what it's going to cost them now. 2
Fuzz Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 The compensation is capped at USD$1350 in vouchers (not sure how useful they are or where they can be spent). Still a crappy level of compensation when your travels plans are thrown into disarray. 1

Still a crappy level of compensation when your travels plans are thrown into disarray. AFAIK, the $1350 is just guidelines for overbooked flights. There's nothing stopping United from offering a better incentive. Also, because United did not overbook this flight (it was fully booked) but needed the 4 extra seats for 4 deadheading employees, this guideline may or may not apply. The best place and time to deal with this was at boarding not when the customer is in the seat getting ready for take off. What's wrong with United's 4 employees taking the next available flight? Why do the customer have to take the brunt of this? What did he do wrong in the first place? Then after all this, to make it better, blame it on the customer! Way to go United. Good thing the customer doesn't look remotely Middle Eastern.

Still a crappy level of compensation when your travels plans are thrown into disarray. The $1350 cap is for passengers involuntarily bumped, who cannot be accommodated to their destination within 2 hours of the original arrival time, and it must be paid in cash, not vouchers. The payout is actually 4x the price paid for the fare, with a maximum of $1350. If they can get you there between 1-2 hours of your original time, compensation is half. Within an hour, you get nothing. Of course airlines prefer to pay out in vouchers that usually expire in a year and have restrictions on when and where they can be used. But that's supposed to be for voluntary bumps only. They're free to negotiate or offer whatever they want to entice passengers to willingly give up their seats. Knowing there is a cap on compensation if they have to involuntarily bump someone obviously bolsters their negotiating position. It's exceedingly rare that someone is involuntarily bumped, something like 1 in 10,000 passengers. There's almost always someone willing to take the vouchers. 1
