What is the average amount of Holidays designated in your country for a full time worker? In Oz: 4 weeks paid annual leave. 12 Paid Public Hoidays * Additional 10 days paid sick leave for full time employees. 4 weeks employer paid long service leave after 10 years continuous full time employment. Let us know how we stack up against full time workers in your country?
kuma Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Telecomm - Union members only - 5 weeks paid. 4 days extra paid w/20 years or more. Sick time - depends on amount of time at company. 20 yrs or more could stay out a year with full pay (long term disability) then 6 months 1/2 (short term disability) pay; example knee replacement / shoulder / hip....... Cold / flu things of that nature 4 days paid any more time need doc. note. Also hurt on job "workmens compensation" company pays ALL bills. Out until you are ready to return. Only problem with that is company has been known to film union members who maybe dogging it and not really hurt.

I get three weeks vacation, 10 public holidays (if my memory's right) and 5 sick days (and 3 personal off days). I sometimes struggle taking all my vacation since work can be quite busy and as a consultant, I'm expected to manage my own time... Clients first, right?
skalls Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 At the bank I get 15 paid days + 5 unpaid days off. 10 holidays (typically take 4-5 off and work the others to earn a floating holiday to use whenever I want too). Also get 6 paid sick days. I think I've used 6 sick days total in the last 3 1/2 to 4 years. Boss is cool so if I want to adjust my schedule a bit she's usually pretty cool with it.

MIKA27 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I'm unsure if this is right but my wifes cousin in Chile gets a pretty bad deal. Apparently they get 3 days paid annual leave per year.... Can anyone confirm? Maybe Taino?
Kurt Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Here in Thailand employees are allowed: 13 public holidays and if that holiday falls on the employees day off then he also gets the next day off as well. 6 days paid vacation. 30 days sick leave. Land of smiles LOS Kurt
brschoppe Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I don't know if my company is unique, but it seems like many companies in the states are getting rid of sick time and just combining it with Paid Time Off (aka vacation). Right now I get 20 PTO days and 10 holidays.

Right now I get 20 PTO days and 10 holidays. Not sure if it's a trend, but some tech companies seem to keep sick leave separate and make it unlimited, but tracked.

Best PTO I had was in being stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army that observed both American and German holidays and Thursday afternoon off. Seemed like we had half the year was 4 day weekends and throw 30 days of Leave on it.
jwr0201 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 In US, at previous job, negotiated 3 weeks vacation after 5 years. 5 days paid sick leave. Had good retirement plan, which was terminated. Most are fortunate to have the job after 10 years! Current job - none of the above except the 10 year deal. All the perks go to the corporate execs. With the economy and corporate outlook now, it is day to day for most of us in the US. Employees are viewed as a necessary evil and are considered expendable. No worries though. It's retirement time in about 5 years! WOOHOO!
Guest scsi Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 In Canada 10 paid days off is the minimum standard, but almost everyone gets more time off than that It all depends on the company you work for For me as an example and the company I work for: 10 paid days off after 1 year of service 15 paid days off after 3 years of service 20 paid days off after 7 years of service 25 paid days off after 15 years of service 30 paid days off after 22 years of service Sick days tracked and not to exceed 5% absent, no pay Short term disability kicks in at 75% coverage after 3 consecutive days off and lasts 1 year Long term disability starts after 1 year off and is 50% coverage

Holiday entitlement is built-up when workers are off sick. If workers qualify, statutory sick pay is paid at a government rate of £88.45 for 28 weeks. Any additional monies must come from employers. Of course, if you're self-employed like me, you can choose your own holiday time, but have to take care of sickness pay yourself.

Lotusguy Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 In theory, I have 4 weeks of vacation/year (it stops accruing after you have accumulated 2 years worth, and I have been maxed out for the last 15 months ). The standard at our company for a new hire is 3 weeks/year. Goes up with tenure. 5 floating holidays, 7 fixed holidays Unlimited sick days (but short term disability kicks in after 3 sequential days). We have to compete with some pretty generous employers in the area (Facebook, Google, ...) so our benefits have been getting better.

The legal minimum in Ireland for a full time employee is 1.66 days for every month worked or 20 days per year + 9 public holidays. Individual employers usually give more for years of service. In my last job as an employee I was up to 35 days per year plus 9 public holidays. It was nice.

moryc Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Canada, I work in public sector unionized: 13 paid holidas Vacation 1-2 years - 10 days 3-7 years - 15 days 8-15 years - 20 days 16-23 year - 25 days 24 years and beyond - 30 days Sick incidentals, up to 2 days no doctor's note required, technically unlimited but they have an attendance management program to prevent abuse Short term disability up to 15 weeks/year (1 week added for every year of service) at 100% pay Long term disability up to 2 year at 66% pay (you technically make more because it comes from insurance so no income tax). If it is determined that you can't work under any circumstance its paid up to the age of 65 Overtime can be banked at a rate of 1.5 for time off.
