Colt45 Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Would we be talking about this ????? Guy Baby! Interesting perspective which I'd not considered. We might not be - because there's a chance I'd have never "met" you, or any of the other members / friends here. Presupposing there hadn't been a revolution? I guess it's open either way...... The US smokers would visit their local tobacconist every week to purchase singles, just like the rest of the world… and you wouldn't have all these Aroma del Caca de la Vaca offerings… Perhaps so. My thoughts are not limited to (and actually less about) cigars....
luv2fly Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 My being a part of this site is a direct result of the embargo and I am grateful for that. 1
JohnS Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 If there'd never been an embargo, and US-Cuba relations became cordial at some point in the Sixties, I'd imagine we'd have had a US Regional release of H.Upmann Petit Coronas in honour of JFK by now. Then again, it could still happen. (But I doubt as the ring gauge is too small by modern trends!)
Smallclub Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 a US Regional release of H.Upmann Petit Coronas in honour of JFK by now. Kennedy's cigar wasn't the the Upmann petit corona, but the Petit Upmann http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=H._Upmann#Petit_Upmann_%281%29

People can say what they will, but you don't see 70% QC fails like Rob showed us last week on the Trini Reyes. (this is all assuming there had never been a revolution and gov seizure of the entire Tobacco industry).

JohnS Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Kennedy's cigar wasn't the the Upmann petit corona, but the Petit Upmann http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=H._Upmann#Petit_Upmann_%281%29 Sure, that's correct. The Handmade Petit Upmann. And to confuse things further, I've read accounts about Pierre Salinger's purchase of H.Upmann Petit Upmann's prior to the embargo been signed by JFK as 1200 in total, and 1000 in total and 400 in total. Other references state JFK's favourite cigar as the machine-made Petit Upmann (I highly doubt it), whereas other refer to this cigar being called a 'Demi Tasse' in the USA at the time (again, I think this is incorrect). I have no reason to believe that Habanos SA will bring a Regional Edition cigar below 38 ring gauge, or in the H.Upmann line, as they have not done so in the last 10 years, since the program started in 2005. The Global and Niche Brands are excluded from the Regional Edition program (Cohiba, H.Upmann, Hoyo de Monterrey, Jose L. Piedra, Montecristo, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta, Cuaba, San Cristobal and Trinidad) , but stranger things have happened haven't they? (The two Edmundo Dantes Mexican Regional Edition releases in 2007 and 2011 which were really Montecristo releases - done due to trademark issues, and the resurrection of the La Escepcion brand with the 2011 Selectos Finos) So, in conclusion, no Short Panatelas or H.Upmann Regional Editions have been seen since 2005, but at least we've had six Petit Coronas. http://cubancigarwebsite.com/list.aspx?current=&specialtype=Regional_Edition_Series;&sortorder=ring
sengjc Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 There will be MacDonalds and Burger King in Havana. The Fuentes and the Padrons will still be in Cuba and may not be the famous families that they are today. 4
Colt45 Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 The Fuentes and the Padrons will still be in Cuba and may not be the famous families that they are today. I'm not sure I'd agree - I'm pretty sure they left because of nationalisation.
drunkbuckeye Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I'm not sure I'd agree - I'm pretty sure they left because of nationalisation. That's what professor Google told me way back when I had the curiousity in me.
PigFish Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Penguin wings or eagle wings? flying frog flying squirrel flying pig ...this pig has a pilots licence! That is one solved anyway! -P
sengjc Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I'm not sure I'd agree - I'm pretty sure they left because of nationalisation. You're right. I was coming from the angle that the embargo did not take place because nationalisation did not happen.
cigcars Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 *I'd probably be a much saner (and much, MUCH more financially sound) individual. Like we all know - you don't miss something until you can't get it anymore. Pure, quality Colombian coffee availability is compromised these days because of the burning of Colombian growing fields supposedly to do away with Coca leaves, and yes Clear Havana tobacco cigars which were the plentiful source of seegar smokes became prized gems to collect once they became verbotten to us Americans, etc., etc.
laficion Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 yes Clear Havana tobacco cigars which were the plentiful source of seegar smokes became prized gems to collect once they became verbotten to us Americans, etc., etc. For me ,at least ,If there Is only one thing I don't regret about the embargo It Is the loss of the," Clear Havanas", cigars . Lant63 Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 First time I've heard that. Is that your opinion or fact? On which? The Edmundo Dante does taste like an amazing upmann with some extra coffee and chocolate nuances, at least in my humble opinion. But yes, people who I've known to have tracked to Mexico hav said there are genuine montecristo in the lcdhs. Sent by telepathic superpowers. -Stogieboy

The EDs were not labelled as Montes not bc of copyright, but because global Marcus are not supposed to have REs. That's how I remember. 1
