The interview with the Dante creator, his name escapes me but the one who had the first LCDH and pioneered the concept (HSA made him sell his store to create the first one) claimed it is no Montecristo blend but his homage to his favourite cigar, the Partagas Lusitania.

The Clear Havanas continuing in the United States, Canada and elsewhere would be awesome.

CA - would it exist?

The cigar boom ever happen?

What would the cost of cigars be?

How many Marcas would exist?

…errr… maybe, but the EDs I have smoked had absolutely nothing that could remind a Lusitania. To me it was a very good Upmann blend with hints of Montecristo…

My homage to Elvis Presley's "In the ghetto" has absolutely nothing that could remind anyone of the original :D

If the mob was never forced out of Havana, I am guessing that it may resemble the Las Vegas of the east. I imagine tourism would drive a large part of the Cuban economy putting lesser influence on cigars when it comes to the economy as a whole (thinking of the Dominican Republic). Gitmo would have been returned to the Cubans. Havana would be the economic and technological hub of Latin America.

First time I've heard that. Is that your opinion or fact?

That is a Fact, The story is BS, Max Gutmann himself had told it to me, and to Cigar Aficionado. Edmundo Dantes is intended to be his own marca and his own blend. He has been actively involved in the blend and yes, its supposed to be a homage to his favorite cigar the lusitanias, but not the lusitanias we know and love. but the old Lusitanias that was a 109. (he still has them in his private stock). Still he loves the regular lusitanias biggrin.png

And I agree with the flavours, Hupmann and monte kind of/sort of.

And last but not least, there in no trademark dispute down here in Mexico with the Montecristo brand, you can have them easily at any store.

Hope that this info helps, I have been trying to end the myth since forever without luck.

So the Edmundo Dantes label is an entirely unique Marca and not named as such in homage to the central character in Dumas' novel? It was not named ED to avoid one of the major brands having a RE?

Why choose the name then? What is its significance.

Great Question, One that I promise I will ask directly to him or one of his people :) My best guess, is that its just a "coincidence, but a commercial success coincidence. You know, not a montecristo, but it doesn't hurt to have a relationship or homage to a successful brand.

Not to avoid that, as I been told. And also Max has told in numerous times that it was always intended as it's own brand.

Here is a link to and old CA article where you can get some info as not to take my word for it :D

Who's fighting?

Thanks for the info. Interesting choice of names as well as band and box appearance if not related to Montecristo....
