LordAnubis Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 It's not often i check out the news, but today I did and we got a new PM! Who know's anything about old mate Mal? Is he any good at anything? Apparently he wants to give freedom to individuals. The PM gig is a bit of a short one hey? I can't think of any PM since Howard whos served their entire term. 1
Scrubber Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 It's pretty crazy the switching of PMs we have had in the last few years. That being said, I have always wanted Mal to be PM. He is the most liberal in the true sense of what the party stands for (i.e. Governments should step back and let people live their lives and be able to make money without worrying about too many regulations and red tape). He is all for free markets, freedom and individualism. Hopefully he delivers this in office. One thing he is good at is making money lol. He is by far the richest PM we have ever had. He is worth many many millions so at least we can be assured that he is in the job for the right reasons and not just to line his own pockets. Anyway, hopefully he does a good job and our economy can pick back up again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
LordAnubis Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 I wonder if we will give the smokers any rights back, and reduce the taxes... cos that inhibits our freedoms... maybe i'll send him an email.
Fuzz AI Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Before Clive Palmer, Malcolm Turnbull was the richest pollie (net worth approx $180m). Before going into politics he was; a barrister, chairman of OzEmail, MD of Goldman Sachs and chairman of the Australian Republican Movement. A minister during the Howard era, he lost the leadership challenge to Dr Brendan Nelson when Rudd came to the top job. A year later, he bumped off Nelson to take the Opposition Leadership, then another year later lost it to Abbott.

They make way too much from it. However, I believe that if he was PM at the time he wouldn't have approved of it being increased so much over the last few years (pure speculation as all governments are addicted to taxes and tobacco is a very easy one to up without too many complaints)As for other smokers rights I doubt he can do much as it is mostly a state or local government issue. At best I think he may not increase taxes any further. I hope he will be able to get the economy going again though. That benefits everyone and if we are all making more money than it means we have more to spend on cigars I think you should send him an email though. I encourage everyone to send pollies emails or calls to their offices. It's the only way they know how the people feel and it actually does make a difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CaptainQuintero Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 It's all over our news, Russia has deployed tanks inside Syria but its wall to wall coverage of the Oz political coup!
raymond5737 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Congratulations on your new president. We are all watching and hoping for great things to come for our Aussie brothers and sisters.
Guest rob Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I watched it declared live on ABC - and smiled from ear to ear. I was so happy, which is unusual in itself - as I had recently given up hope of having a respectable political environment any time soon. If we can get rid of Shorten, and have an equally respectable, opposition, then things might look up. I will celebrate a small victory for our nation today.
JohnS Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I had a good chuckle yesterday when Turnbull challenged Abbott for the leadership by declaring, "No more captain calls". For those of you who aren't familiar with Australian politics, this is the line Mr Abbott used, and more than once, to justify policies in defiance of his cabinet. I had a long day yesterday and turned in early, but I knew I would wake up to a new PM on Tuesday morning after hearing Turnbull state his reason for challenging.
westg Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 LOLS Sent from my iPhone Ha-ha what next the Hoff and Henry Winkler
Dimmers Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Another brutal season of Game of Thrones continues...
Duxnutz Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Kinda makes us look like a joke (politically). I agree he did have to go tho.
Fuzz AI Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 He's still smiling with his modest $300k pension. 1
Duxnutz Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 And endless work as a promo model for speedo! 1
MIKA27 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 5 PM's in 5 years If there's one great thing out of this - Joe Hockey will be getting the FLICK
jat Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 5 PM's in 5 years Probably now rank as the least politically stable county in the Asia Pacific.
First Lady Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 He's still smiling with his modest $300k pension. No he misses out on it by 3 days LOLOL
Fuzz AI Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 No he misses out on it by 3 days LOLOL Not quite right. He get's his $300k pension, but misses out on the $600k for serving more than 2 years as PM. His pension is based on the following: 6.25% of the base parliamentary salary multiplied by the number of years in parliament (6.25% x $195,130 x 21 years). The pension is capped at 75% of the base parliamentary salary, so he gets $146,350. On top of that, he gets top ups due to being a minister, opposition leader and PM. That props up his pension to $300k. Adding to that is the usual trappings of being a former PM; money to pay for an office, staff and travel costs.

Even on $100K he'd still be a lot better off than the average Pensioner here earning a Quarter of that. He won't struggle that's for sure.
Deodato Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 ... Scrubber I am right there with you for the most part... except this line curdled my eyeballs

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I am sure Clive is in it for the right reasons as well In my humble opinion, buffoons one and all. Scott Morrison to be the next elected Liberal PM.
