First, a little background...

I am a light/recreational smoker (avg. 1-2 cigars per week), but have been smoking cigars regularly for 10 years and Cubans mostly exclusively for the last 7. With this in mind I have probably tried ~50% of the current Habanos regular production catalog as well as a fair number of discontinueds. Very limited experience with LEs and REs.

The list that follows are my top 5 broadly-defined flavors (in order of preference) that I have come to savor in Cuban cigars. While I don't necessarily believe that there is one 'perfect' marca for me, what marca (or even a specific cigar) would you most recommend in my pursuit of cigar Nirvana???:

Bread/Dough

Dark Chocolate

Baking spice

Cream

Earth

Thanks all - I love FOH and appreciate all responses!

First off you have a great name and the correct spelling of it.

H upmann magnum 46 covers some of those flavor profiles. H upmann #2 may as well.

Haha - yes a donut in cigar form is what I seek!

Thanks guys and I love the recommendations so far. Have not tried the Upmann 2 in my journey thus far, and I have only smoked a handful of Mag 46s over the years...they are on my list to revisit.

Have not tried the Diplo 2 either. Smoked a handful of 4s & 5s back in the day and I do think Diplomaticos is right in my flavor wheelhouse...of course they have basically stripped the line to nothing pod.gif

Yeah, a chocolate-covered cream-filled doughnut dropped in the dirt! rotfl.gif

Have you tried San Cristobal? The El Morro presents biscuit, chocolate, cinnamon, a touch of earth and creamy on the palate.

'Earth' is a funny one - this has to be amongst the most subjective tastes out there...I can't recall the last time I actually had dirt in my mouth! For me I think of it as some combination of manure/barnyard aroma over a flat, peaty/minerally mouthfeel.

As far as SCDLH I have only been through a box of El Principes, which were great. The El Morro is a bit more cigar than I usually have time for - what do you think of the La Fuerza and La Punta?

I'd say a punch punch or punch dc for everything but the dark chocolate. both have been great and the punch punchs are very reasonably priced and available from our host on the daily specials pretty frequently

Sounds like the discription of many upmanns to me as well - Royal robusto, conn. A, the pc and aged mag 46 to some degree. Take the bread out of the eqation and you could go with bolivar and others.

If you subtract the bread/dough... Trinidad.

For Bread/dough Juan Lopez No.2 comes to mind. I find a biscuit character to them sometimes.

I get most of these from a young HU Mag 46.

Be prepared to see the entire HSA catalog listed in this thread, plus a handful of NCs…

LMAO at this, Small. So true.

I have to concur that the first thing I thought of was a H.Upmann Magnum 46 or the H.Upmann catalogue in general.

Bread/dough and dark chocolate are not flavous I can recall having had in the same cigar... My memory is typically poor however.

Looks like FOH has spoken with consensus here. A quick check of my humidor shows 7 marcas represented and not an Upmann among them...

Repeated mention of the Upmann No. 2 caused me to check out Rob & Ken's recent video review, seems to nail the profile.

Thanks all!

Bread/Dough

Dark Chocolate

Baking spice

Cream

Earth

My first thought was Upmann, as well.

Bread/dough - definitely

Dark chocolate - No - more of a fleeting coffee to me

Baking spice - Perhaps

Cream - H Upmanns age into good cream notes (Connie #1 and PC are favorites of mine for this)

Earth - most CC are earthy to me to some degree

Shortbread cookie notes-YES !!!! Try a box of Upmann petit coronas.

I guess I was hoping to get most or all of it in one marca...but I trust your response is more realistic, and steers me towards what I am most after:

Bread/Dough- H. Upmann 2

Thx!

H.Upmann No.2...mmm, I have some LUB May 2014 No.2's resting right now in my humidor. I can't wait to sample them in a few months!
