Popular Post Quint Posted March 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 20, 2015 My wife and I love the outdoors, we spend as much time as we can up in the New Hampshire white mountains hiking, backpacking, and kayaking. We are currently working on climbing the highest peeks of New Hampshire which is part of the Appalachian Mountains. There are 48 peeks that are currently recognized by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC). We have summited 41 of them and expect to finish the list this summer. Most are above tree line and are absolutely breath taking when your up there, Gods country I like to call it. If anybody is interested I could start a thread with pics of us on the summits and other beautiful discoveries while hiking up. Oh, and the Pemigewasset (Abanake indian word for swift) river runs right behind the site so we drive the kayaks up river about 14 miles and kayak right back to our site, then bike back to my truck and drive it back. We bought a 5th wheel RV about 8 years ago so we could travel around to various places we enjoy hiking and kayaking and decided that a central location in the middle of the White Mountains would be ideal to have a permanent place to park and call our own for 6 months a year. This pictue is of our seasonal site. It's mine as long as I want it and I bring the 5th wheel up there middle of April and haul it home end of October. Everything you see in the pic was done by my wife and I. When we got the site it was simply a notch cut out of the woods. We did all the landscaping, put up the Gazebo and shed, made the racks for our kayaks, laid down the stone etc. Now it's our little piece of heaven. You can't see much behind the RV in the shed area but there's a gazebo there and a fire pit and a wall of wood (2 cords). Right in front of the kayaks I laid down a small patio and have my grill and smoker. So after a nice long smoke of a brisket or ribs and we fill our belly we kick back and light the fire and spark up a nice cigar with a single malt. (well at least I do, my wife makes one of those fancy martini's) That's where I find my cigar smoking Zen (smoking something from Rob of course), listening to and enjoying nature the way it was meant to be. Many times we have friends up to enjoy and share all this with. Many laughs and good times have been had around that campfire, and we seem to solve all the worlds problems too, at least until the buzz wears off. Thanks for looking 13
oljud Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Man, that looks amazing! For me, im happy as long as the temperature stays above 0 degrees Celcius so i can smoke outside without freezing my ass off. //M 2

Quint Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 That's awesome! Show us some pics of that caravan thing! LOL what's the caravan thing? The RV?
Rye Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Fantastic little spot, but as a bit of a mountain man myself, I want to see the mountain pics! We have had a milder then usual winter in this part of the Rockies, so the roads will be passable very soon, and I can get back to my happy place! 1
leftimatic Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I think an adventure and cigar Zen thread would be great. Did so much of that stuff before the boys came along. But now they are getting older and I think a few overnight hikes are in the future. Please post those pics and get a man inspired. And I will dig some of mine from adventures past.
Ubergosupro69 Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I love the white Mountains. I'm from the rolling hills of Iowa (which I also love) but my dad moved to New Hampshire when he moved back to the states from a stint in Hong Kong. We did an overnight backpacking trip in the white Mountains and had a blast, looking forward to our next adventure there
Quint Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 There is something called flags on the 48, it is organized by a bunch of hikers on a forum I'm a member of. It's kept very informal and we resist any type of commercialization of the event. Basically how it began was after 9/11 a few guys climbed to the summit of Mt Liberty and rose up the American flag. The following year on the closest Sunday to 9/11 a few more groups of people decided to climb 6 or 7 of the mountains with various types of flag pole rigging and hoisted flags from all of those summits. We now have a group for each of the 48 summits and every year on the closest Sunday to 9/11 we have a group that climbs up each summit and we raise flag poles and all hoist up American flag, lots of people also fly prayer flags ect. On a clear day from any summit above tree line you can see quite a few of the flags on other summits. Its a pretty awesome event and feeling when it all happens. The following pics are last years event, unfortunately it was not a clear day. My wife and I climbed Mt Liberty and we got to the summit quite early (flags are meant to all be raised at noon time, so we decided to hike over to another summit, Mt Flume, and climb that as well, we get their just before noon watch that flag go up and then hike back to Liberty to get there before the other flag is taken down. Here are a few pics of both summits 1st: Summit of Liberty in site Getting closer Summit of Liberty Now Over to Mt flume, me almost at the summit of Flume taking a pic of my wife taking a pic of me My wife standing where I was on previous pic Making it up to the flag I get emotional everytime I see this one 1
canadianbeaver Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I am a front porch/back porch or a fireplace gal. As long as dog and/or hubby are around. But these scenic spots and the camp are stunning!

JohnS Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Wow...what lovely images of nature you have, it reminds me a little of the Blue Mountains National Park area near Sydney, Australia. Caravans are what Aussies refer to as RV's (yeah...Recreational Vehicles). I'm glad your wife enjoys her fancy martini (probably a Cosmopolitan cocktail or variant thereof), but I find my martinis and manhattans, only the guys enjoy! The last image is reflective of the cover image of the Beach Boys single release, Cabinessence... This song was originally intended for the great Beach Boys album that sadly never came to be, SMiLE, which was meant to be an ode to America and its foundations. You can hear the sound of the beauty of the countryside, the development of the railroad, the inter-mingling of nature and civilization. Your photos Quint visually reflect this song, in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOAUroLJnRc I'm glad you have shared your love of the outdoors and hiking/camping!
madandana Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Cool. Thanks for sharing guys. Climbing those mountains scare the crap out of me. For me it's relaxing in my porch in the winter or patio in the summer( we overlook a lake). I do enjoy riding my Harley through the mountains but we are a couple days ride away so it doesn't happen very often. 1
earthson Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Around a fire, preferably in the woods. We're doing a stint in the city while we're in school, and I miss walking outside, lighting up a fire, getting a little tipsy, and smoking a stick or two.
