It is 2020 and the golden days of cigar pricing are well and truly over.

Maximilian "Dinero" Fortuna, the head of HSA, has at the festival just announced that Cuba is on track to supply 100 million cigars to the USA throughout 2020/21 equating to half of forecast production.

The coated crowd roars in approval at the 800 CUC per head gala dinner.

It has been 5 years of rebuilding for HSA and Tabacuba as they poured every dollar into getting their infrastructure right to meet the demand for the end of the embargo that was announced in late 2017.

Global consumers were on one hand relieved that the quality of cigars had not suffered and even that cigars such as Diplomatico Number 4 and Ramon Allones 898 were reintroduced. However, on the other hand they have seen a progressive rise of 22% in the cost of cigars between 2015 and 2020.

Given the hypothetical above, how would the rise in pricing affect your purchasing? use the poll and feel free to expand your thoughts on this thread. party.gif

This should be allowed two votes. Because no matter I keep buying or not, I'm definitely gonna ***** on the internet.

2015: Buy extra coolers 2015: Buy CCs 2016: Continue buying CCs 2017: Embargo lifts 2018: Smile while other people ***** about the higher prices and crappier quality sticks. 2019: Keep Smiling wh

I have enough to last me a lifetime at my current smoke rate. I'd curb my buying, dabble in NC's a little more. Most likely, I'd head down to Cuba and stock up on customs and farmies.

lol. golden days of cigar pricing are already over. especially since the fall of can dollar we r 22% behind 2013 exchange rate. HSA didn't have to rise the prices at all. but another 22% up!

since I refuse to smoke crap I don't really care and will generally roll with the Bolivars.

under one condition....if it is still Cuban tobacco

Buy more now I guess. Then I can hold out for real special exceptions. And ***** on the internet.

Wont even notice it. NO doubt the duty within that period will go up 2000% or something. Government wankers.tantrum.gif

Duty on the imports is key. Whatever amount the US slaps on the imported tobacco will reduce HSA's ability to raise price as well as consumption.

So I'll keep buying mail order rather than at a future B&M charging the equivalent of Canadian or Aussie prices.

There should be another choice...

Break out your mooching sac and go visit the wealthy mates!

I made my first order with FOH January 2014 .Since then the USD have risen more than 30% against the EUR and I live in Europe, so for me prices went up by 30% alreadypod.gifpod.gifpod.gif . But what can you do when there is another 24:24 every day...unsure.pnghelp.gif

I will probably still ***** on the internet, and be much more selective in my purchasing. Snagging boxes, or re-introduced favorites, and my staple cigars. But I will not raise my cigar budget, and will start smoking down my stash.

If my income and cost of living are commensurate.... then nothing changes. If the ratio between them changes, up or down - then so will my discretionary purchases.

Much more than 30% for those of us europeans who were purchasing in US$ from the grey market in 2007/08/09...

I suspect as others have said, taxes in Aus will have gone up significantly (plus AUD crashing and HSA raising prices). If the prices are as high as I'm expecting, I'll probably sit back and chill with my current stash....and ***** on the internet

Looking five years into the future, there's only one option I can be absolutely certain about, and that's bitching on the internet.

First I hope like hell my income has kept pace with cuban cigar inflation! Barring that, likely grin and bear it. It's still a cost effective passion/hobby. Less than motorcycles, golf, hookers and blow.
