El Presidente Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 It is 2020 and the golden days of cigar pricing are well and truly over. Maximilian "Dinero" Fortuna, the head of HSA, has at the festival just announced that Cuba is on track to supply 100 million cigars to the USA throughout 2020/21 equating to half of forecast production. The coated crowd roars in approval at the 800 CUC per head gala dinner. It has been 5 years of rebuilding for HSA and Tabacuba as they poured every dollar into getting their infrastructure right to meet the demand for the end of the embargo that was announced in late 2017. Global consumers were on one hand relieved that the quality of cigars had not suffered and even that cigars such as Diplomatico Number 4 and Ramon Allones 898 were reintroduced. However, on the other hand they have seen a progressive rise of 22% in the cost of cigars between 2015 and 2020. Given the hypothetical above, how would the rise in pricing affect your purchasing? use the poll and feel free to expand your thoughts on this thread.
BonVivant Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 If the cigars are exceptional, and only that, I vote the top choice 1
Popular Post santela Posted March 18, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2015 This should be allowed two votes. Because no matter I keep buying or not, I'm definitely gonna ***** on the internet. 10
mrsgucia Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 lol. golden days of cigar pricing are already over. especially since the fall of can dollar we r 22% behind 2013 exchange rate. HSA didn't have to rise the prices at all. but another 22% up! since I refuse to smoke crap I don't really care and will generally roll with the Bolivars. under one condition....if it is still Cuban tobacco
leftimatic Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Buy more now I guess. Then I can hold out for real special exceptions. And ***** on the internet.
Lotusguy Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I have enough to last a while so I voted for 2. Won't really have to stop - ever 1
LordAnubis Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Wont even notice it. NO doubt the duty within that period will go up 2000% or something. Government wankers. 1
PapaDisco Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Wont even notice it. NO doubt the duty within that period will go up 2000% or something. Government wankers. Duty on the imports is key. Whatever amount the US slaps on the imported tobacco will reduce HSA's ability to raise price as well as consumption. So I'll keep buying mail order rather than at a future B&M charging the equivalent of Canadian or Aussie prices.
JohnS Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I'll find a way to make 22% more income. Does anyone need the lawns mowed on a Saturday?
Rye Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 There should be another choice... Break out your mooching sac and go visit the wealthy mates! 1
Dimmers Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 stockpile. also whine on the internet, as I assume that Raul will be following me on twitter by then. 2
Stoyan Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I made my first order with FOH January 2014 .Since then the USD have risen more than 30% against the EUR and I live in Europe, so for me prices went up by 30% already . But what can you do when there is another 24:24 every day...
Homebrew Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I will probably still ***** on the internet, and be much more selective in my purchasing. Snagging boxes, or re-introduced favorites, and my staple cigars. But I will not raise my cigar budget, and will start smoking down my stash. Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)
Guest rob Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 If my income and cost of living are commensurate.... then nothing changes. If the ratio between them changes, up or down - then so will my discretionary purchases.
purpleloki Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Be more selective or just wait for the next 24:24 lol.
Smallclub Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Since then the USD have risen more than 30% against the EUR and I live in Europe, so for me prices went up by 30% already . Much more than 30% for those of us europeans who were purchasing in US$ from the grey market in 2007/08/09...
oliverdst Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I would probably stop smoking or would smoke much less. If I am killing myself at least has to be cheap.
shlomo Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 ***** on the internet? NEVER,!!! Selective for sure.
Puros Y Vino Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I have enough to last me a lifetime at my current smoke rate. I'd curb my buying, dabble in NC's a little more. Most likely, I'd head down to Cuba and stock up on customs and farmies. 3
baragh Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I suspect as others have said, taxes in Aus will have gone up significantly (plus AUD crashing and HSA raising prices). If the prices are as high as I'm expecting, I'll probably sit back and chill with my current stash....and ***** on the internet
wabashcr Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Looking five years into the future, there's only one option I can be absolutely certain about, and that's bitching on the internet. 1
Rushman Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 First I hope like hell my income has kept pace with cuban cigar inflation! Barring that, likely grin and bear it. It's still a cost effective passion/hobby. Less than motorcycles, golf, hookers and blow. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1
