purpleloki Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Does it matter? For some reason if I can only find a box of cigars I'm looking for in A/T I usually move on to something else. I guess it's just the whole experience of receiving a new box opening it up and the aroma smacking you in the face etc. In addition to that I'm thinking, "how would I store them, in the tubes or not"? Was looking at a box of 15 HDM E2 NOV 10. Any thoughts?

Tubos are notorious for mold, caused by creating a micro climate within the humidor's climate. a lot of the time cigars are packaged in the tubos too soon / humid and they develop mold. Having said that, I've also had some fantastic tubos. so really its 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. It truly comes down to personal preference.

I'm with u lotus, I love tubos some how they have better construction and aroma, witch I love that. They only issue is pay more $$$$$. Lol

Geo17pip Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 When you get them, inspect each cigar to make sure there is no mold and store them with their caps off in the box they came in. Thats what i do and I have no issues.

I'm thinking I'd probably take them out of the tubes. Put a lot of time into my wineador and have it dialed in. Now time to fill it!
Ginseng Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Tubos are a good thing. They protect, they're tiny traveldors, they preserve, and they're just neat to look at and hold. I haven't seen a big bump in mold with tubed cigars. I've got some 40-year Monte Tubos that are in perfect physical condition. They usually are pretty good cosmetically as well. Such seems not to be the case with cardboard pack cigars which are often sub-par cosmetically. Think paint-grade as opposed to stain-grade. Wilkey

earthson Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Tubos are great for the travel factor. After inspecting them each upon arrival, I put them back in the tubes and store them capped. I would assume they age slower, though how much slower (or whether this is true at all) is for your own experimentation.
Skyfall Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 CIGAR HACK: Take an empty tube, poke or drill a bunch of holes in it, fill it with beads, and use it in your Travel Humidor when you are traveling with cigars for longer periods of time. It works great with the 15 count travel humidors. 3
GavLew79 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 In my limited experience, I'm not a fan. A box of 10 BRC A/T were the shittiest looking bunch of cigars I've seen. All vary widely in colour and construction and vary widely in taste. Not that that doesn't happen with dress boxes or cabs, I just found it much more pronounced.

I think that's mostly because they are usually slightly more expensive. I like tubos, they are easy to carry around and handing out to mates, not to mention they stay round. Box press isn't really my thing.
