if you were given the opportunity to make your own 5 cigar sampler.....anything from 2000 to current thinking.gif

  • Price is irrelevant. You have come into a little "play" money
  • Assume all produced in that time is still available.
  • One cigar of each only.

What wold your Sampler be? party.gif

This, except sub Punch SS#2 for Cohiba 1966.

Because I have plenty of 66's and none of the rest.

It's all good fun. If I was comparing marcas then I'd do matching vitolas (so all DC's or PC's or corona grandes, etc.) but I'd have to do 5 of each marca, in order to deal with variability. Do the tasting over the course of a week, two or three sticks each evening. I think it would give one an indelible memory of the distinctions between the names.

Or, if doing a tasting within a given marca, then separate them by years; sort of like doing a 'vertical' at a wine tasting. Punch Punch from 2005, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2014, or the same with Sir Winstons. I'll bet the Sir Winnies would be a better expression of their 'terroir' (not that Habanos SA ever tells us which tobacco came from which farm), whereas the Punch Punch would be a more thorough expression of someone monkeying (or ignoring) the company's formula.

Or, lastly, do a tasting across vitolas within the same marca; so H. Upmann PC's, Magnum 46 (corona gorda), and Sir Winston or Monarca: all sticks of similar proportions, but of different scale, and all from the same maker.

but perhaps none of this matters with the way Habanos shuffles the marcas and the factories . . .
