Moogypug Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I appologize in advance if this sounds like a rant but I wanted to get this off my chest amongst my brothers and sisters here. Let me start by saying that I enjoy my cigars without interruptions. For me, cigar smoking time is a special time. I don't smoke cigars everyday because of time constraints and therefore, I set aside very specific times for my smoke when I know for sure I won't have to waste my precious cigars due to interruptions. I know life doesn't like to follow a schedule sometimes but I try my very best to set aside that special time. This past weekend, I had to go to Las Vegas for business and usually what this means is that I can set aside cigar time after work on the casino floor. Ironically, I'm not much of a gambler, but rather use the smoking environment of the casino floor as an excuse to enjoy my cigars. I sit at a random one-arm-bandit (away from drunk revelers), get some rum or scotch, and light up. I like the slots because it does not require much attention, unlike when I'm at the tables. And because I can set aside more time when I'm in Vegas than when I am at home, it is almost the only time I can enjoy larger format cigars like DCs, etc. Well, after one of my conferences, I realized I can set aside a good 2.5 hours before any other obligations. I decided this would be the time to enjoy a beautiful Cohiba Genios our host had sent me. I brought a small bottle of Havana Club rum just for this occasion. I found some random slot machine that was somewhat isolated and began the ritual. It was glorious. I was finally relaxed. The rum was kicking in. I was in heaven. All of all sudden, all heck breaks loose and I'm getting calls from work left and right. I had just finished 2/3 of my genios and just started getting wave after wave of silky dark chocolate and hints of cream. I had to put my cigar out and had to leave. And because it was late and I had an early flight the next morning, I had to chuck my stick into the bin. This really irritated me. For me, plugged cigars, wonky burns, etc are not nearly as annoying as an interruption to my ritual. So I was wondering, what are your pet peeves during your cigar time? I would gladly take an ash on my lap as long as I'm not interrupted. 1
Popular Post MrGTO Posted October 30, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2014 When I am smoking a cigar at a bar and someone smoking cigarettes complains about cigar smoke..... 24
rtrimbath Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 You hit the nail on the head with interruptions. Nothing bothers me more than getting a phone call or having someone pull me away from my smoke session. It drives me nuts! 1
forgop Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Simple-dont answer the phone if you don't want to interrupt whatever it is you're doing. 1
leftimatic Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 These simple words "Honey can you help me with this?" "DADDY! I need a drink of water!" "It's for you." 2
Popular Post gtejada Posted October 30, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2014 A stranger asking can they try my Cigar. 9
Moogypug Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 A stranger asking can they try my Cigar.I've never had this happen to me but this would definitely be an awkward situation. Ugh, if they slobbered all over the stick, I would be sad and annoyed. Lol. 1
Lasabar Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 When the time to smoke is forced upon me. I'm known in the family as the cigar guy. So I'm always holding but I like to smoke when things die down at the family parties. After dinner, after the little ones open their presents, etc. Give the cigar my attention and have as few interruptions as possible When my father-in-law, who smokes as a form of habit not enjoyment, pipes up while everyone is chatting and enjoying themselves with "Wanna go have a fine seeee-gar?" Not that I'm opposed to smoking, but all the others that I have brought cigars for all decline as they have their wives/children to tend to as the party is in full swing. So I'm stuck with the in-law smoking a great cigar with only him and listening to him banter on. On BIG holidays he also suggests a 2nd cigar but I tend to bring the same cigar for everyone so I'm not prone to smoke the exact same cigar again and then I get an eyebrow raised at me by all the other smokers.
Baldy Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Not much would bother me including interruptions. Mind you I control my environment as much as possible. Cellphone? What phone? Oh the phone left on the charger? My cigar time is important which means you enjoy one with me or wait until I'm done. Having said that my biggest pet peeve is wind. 2
DoubleDD Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I will not put a cigar out then re-light it. I hate the way they taste after no matter what I do! 3
LeafLover Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I will not put a cigar out then re-light it. I hate the way they taste after no matter what I do! Same for me
Popular Post soutso Posted October 30, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2014 This one's a little embarrassing but I'll say it. When I'm enjoying a No. 2 ....... and I'm interrupted by the need to DO a No. 2 ? 5
cigcars Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Tunneling or an uneven burn. No matter what I do, no matter how evenly I light the foot I too many times find my cigar burning on one side too much. So I'm forever spending my time trying to even it up throughout the smoke with my lighter. Apart from that, not too many distractions happen to me.
Fosgate Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Here goes: Cigarette smokers lighting up in a cigar bar Cigarette smokers lighting up in a cigar bar and complaining about cigar smokers Cigarette smokers who come over and say "Hey I don't mean to offend anyone but..." (As if starting out their compliant session this way some how prevents any form of repercussion for their need to open their mouth.) People who I converse with while smoking but for some reason they find their phone testing more important. People mash their cigar in the ash tray People who remove the band right away on a nice cigar you gave them causing damage to the wrapper and wind up putting it out way early because they cant keep it lit let alone get good smoke out of it. People who bite a cigar open rather than use a cutter and in the process damage it bad enough that they wind up putting it out early. Winter- Just limits where and when I can smoke You save a great smoke for a nice occasion and when you lit it up the dang thing starts to split, burn poorly, plugged or it just plain sucks. 3
TheFullMontecristo Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Noise. Specifically background noise. Someone mowing their lawn, cutting down a tree, playing annoying music, dogs repetitive barking, a whining spouse or child etc. totally ruins the experience. 3
rodrigodeanda Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I guess for me the interruptions are really annoying too, I think the fact that I can put a name on the cigar spoiler is the more annoying thing. For example I can't blame a specific person if the cigar is plugged or keeps burning uneven but I can blame a guy who is annoying while I'm trying to smoke.
airtrade Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Cold wind! Especially when it whips up after I have begun. 2
earthson Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Stems in my cigar! Much more of a NC problem, to be sure.
Bernardini Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 All of the above! To pick a couple, I'd say cold and wind. It is getting to be that time of year here and it limits my smoking time considerably
cigardude Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 definitely interruptions that cut the experience short.....I hate that!
Popular Post Shecky Posted October 30, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2014 Ashes falling onto my clothes cuz i was trying to see how long my ash could hold...always feel like a big noob when it happens 5
