Popular Post Ryan
This is a cigar I’ve been wanting to try for years. I had one of these once before, back in 2009 and ended up giving that one to a very deserving botl. I managed to get my mitts on a few more of them recently. There are certainly rarer cigars than these but this must be one of the rarer ones that are also known about and sought after. James Suckling spoke very highly of these years ago and interest surged again after release of the 2007 UK Por Larranaga Magnifico RE, said to be an effort at a recreation. As for this cigar, it has one of those wrappers that are uncommon on cigars since the mid-90s or so, paper thin and silk-smooth. Though I’m seeing some of those wrappers again on some recent cigars. Faint woody aroma at cold. On cutting there is a perfect draw, for me anyway. Nice resistance. On lighting, the smoke is very dense. I had a think about how to describe this the other night when I was smoking it. It’s not that there is a huge volume of smoke, about normal, but the mouthfeel of the smoke. It feels more dense in the mouth. Something I’ve noticed before with cigars older than 20 years or so. The smoke seems creamier and coats the mouth more effectively than that of younger cigars. Of course this could be psychological, at least largely, but that’s the way I describe the experience. No harshness at all on the nose. Sweet flavours, burnt or carmelised sweetness, along with a saltiness on the lips from the wrapper. Lovely stuff, like salted caramel ice-cream. Slight woodiness on the nose. The cigar got quite strong in the final third and I didn’t rush it. About 2 hours of smoking. A lovely cigar, great experience and glad I finally got to try one. They are great now and, going on that cigar, they’ll be good for years yet. I paired it with Ron Caney Anejo, my favourite rum in the world, also one of the cheapest I can find so I’m lucky that way I suppose
