I have built an inventory of over 700 cigars. 95% of them are stored in their original dress boxes and cab's in my Aristocrat humidor which runs at around 63-65%% rh/70-72f. The rest are singles stored in the humidor's top shelf.

Should I be checking the cigars in the bottoms of these boxes periodically for problems. All cigars have come from two highly trusted sources with most coming from our host. Based on my education here on this forum, I've learned that all cigars are subject to potential problems. I don't freeze any of the cigars before storing.

Would appreciate some input from those of you who have larger collections which are more difficult to keep an eye on.

check cigars ... almost never . rotate cigars ... never . to add water or if somebody visits and wants to look or to get a few boxes to smoke or whatever ... open the doors 2 or 3 or 4 times a year

I would check them monthly to insure there are no problems until such time as you are comfortable with the setup.

Rotating boxes from top to bottom ,sticks in cabs from top to bottom, and so on, is a good idea, you decide the interval that works best.

I would drop the temp to 67-68 if possible,to prevent beetle problems, otherwise carry on with your setup.

I check my inventory monthly, and rotate stock every 3-4 months

About once or twice a year, when the house is about the same temp and RH as the humidor, I pull everything out and do an inventory. I usually open boxes to check what I have and update my inventory list and note low stock to be replenished in the months to come. Last time I found a bit of white mold in a dress box, glad I caught it. It gives me a chance to check the condition in my humidor and I usually light up something good, always fun.

Check it a couple of times a year. I never rotate the boxes as the humidity is pretty even throughout the humidor.

About once a quarter….have the same setup as you with an Aristocrat and humidity/temp settings….

Found a very wet cigar in the bottom row, had already started to grow mold. Another box with several stuck to the bottom. Both were pretty new. Easy fix but sure glad I looked them over

Never done it

I do sometimes go through and check on my boxed stock to make sure nothing is going mouldy but I've never gone through my stock just to see whats there

I kind like getting to the bottom of my singles draws and finding some random stick (or box in some cases) that I got I had and have no idea when/where it came from

I have around 5-600 sticks but it's not enough where I'll start losing track of my cigars. Even though my memory is bad in general, I seem to remember every stick and box I have in my tupperdor. But every once in a while if I'm bored and have nothing to do, I'll go through some boxes on the bottom to see if they're coming along without any mold or beetles (hoping to never find this since I freeze everything now).

Both my humidors are very full at the moment so although I don't necessarily check every box I do need to rotate them by default as I need to move everything around to fit new boxes/cigars in there smile.png

I run 2 wine-coolers and 2 desktops...

It seems I am in almost every box all the time :)

Between my desire for something different all the time, my cigar buddies desire to drop by and try something and just my general habit of box splitting and sharing it seems like I look at almost any box at least once a month.

Some of the cab's only get the cigar off the top taken out but I have never had a problem if I happen to pull out the entire wheel to remove the ribbon as a gift or just show the impression the ribbon makes.

I will admit when I ran a 19cubic foot upgright freezer-a-dor that I would rotate top to bottom every couple of months but that was more due to my back not enjoying reaching down all the time :)

When I was new at my hobby I used to just savor and admire my large and growing inventory at least four times a week. Now that I'm in my 28th year of my hobby - meh, about only when it's time to re-humidify my humidors

I check Main every athore day lol.. That was only summer time. My location here is high on humidity. So better save then regret, plus i enjoy damn smell of habanos:))

Since I'm new to this hobby, I do it whenever I get bored, which is about every other day.

Open the humidors weekly (love the smell). Checking the boxes about 3-4 times a year.

Once every couple of years or so, I'll go through a few boxes and have a look. I don't worry about them too much. I do live in a very forgiving climate for cigar storage though. The climate you live in, more than anything I think, should dictate how often you check your cigars. That and where you buy your cigars (see the 'Check Your Customs' thread).

Cigars I buy in Cuba, any cigars, I keep in separate humidors.

About once a year, in the dead of winter when I haven't smoked in a while and want to reconnect with the hobby I will catalogue everything. Almost always followed up by happy memories, big plans and a spending spree!
