Why do I feel that a weekend of cigar hunting in Brisbane would be more fruitful then in Havana?

But, seriously… If you were planning a CC cigar hunting trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? Andorra? Spain? France? I’m leaving Cuba out of the mix for a few reasons. So, any thoughts? (looking for selection of brands, older boxes, and storage quality)

**edit to add... only countries... no specific shops and No Mail order please

Interesting. I did not consider England as I ASSumed that there would be high taxes on purchases.

There is

But if i had a bottomless wallet nothing would make me happier than digging through Ajays humidor at LCDH for the rarest of the rare cubans

England and Ireland are good for older stuff as in 10 - 50 years old, but you'll pay a premium.

On that note, Ireland has better natural storage than London.

Geneva used to be good for old stuff but not so easy now.

Spain can be great for 3 - 10 year old stuff, at good prices, especially on the older LEs and Reservas but you need a car and drive around.

Interesting. I'm heading to Ireland for a couple weeks at the beginning of September. If there's any specific places I should stop to find a special aged beauty, PM me. I will be in Dublin, Kinsale, Kenmare, Limerick, Galway, and Clifden.

Would you global travelers mind ranking those countries not by selection but by cost? England for example, is ridiculously expensive for cigars. How does Spain compare? And Andorra?

I want to all these countries last year, very nice selections in all of them! Andorra is cheap as chips, as is Spain, both have a great selection. I found the guys that ran the cigar stores in Rome to be the most helpful and knoweledgable about their own selection. the guy i was chatting with knew every box in the massive walk-in, right down the month and year. but in terms of the best cigar shopping experience, you cant beat Berlin. all the LCDH's across Europe are nice, very good selection good prices, they are all pretty equal, and then you go to a cigar shop in Berlin and you are in a different world. everything leather, mahogony, jazz, smoke, the guys that work there in sharp suits but with sharper manners. the other shops i went to around Gemany, Bremen, Hamburg, Cologne, Bonn, were the same.

I have found some great treasures in Italy both times I have been there.

Was just telling a friend I did better in privately owned stores than the LCDH, since most cigar smokers don't head there first.

In the poach areas of Paris, in London, in Geneva, in Brussels, attendants wear suits... even the clerk at the Cigarshop in Andorra...

Probably a typo... "poach" - i assume "posh" as in upscale. Since you live in France, how would you describe the selection there? If you are up for a weekend of CC box hunting, where do you go?

Hong Kong; businessmen have been steadily emptying Switzerland and Andorra over the past few years.

This makes me quite depressed. I had very much looked forward to finally going back to Andorra after my first visit in Dec 2011, but this makes me wonder if there's even a point to going back to Andorra now. The Cigar Shop webpage sure looks bare compared to even a year ago now.

There are still gems to be found but stock has been increasingly picked over, Andorra is still very much worth a visit for the less hyped cigars. Sancho Panza coronas, Party charlotte etc

Switzerland is still excellent but prices are rising/stock is being moved into 'friends of the store' areas as supply starts to dwindle but again still plenty of hidden gems.
