I mean quite literally.

I purchased a Bugatti B-1 because after trying the S.T. Dupont's MaxiJet, I wanted that side-trigger design. Well – really I wanted the Maxi (and even more truthfully, a French-made Xtend) but I decided to forego spending nearly $150 on a lighter and bought one for a sixth of that price tag.

I do like everything about the lighter, save two complaints. The first is that there's no fuel gauge.
Secondly...

The fecking trigger shocks my finger! It doesn't happen every time, but more than half the time when I ignite the lighter, the metal side trigger sends a low electrical shock to my thumb. It seems benign, but the thought just occurred to me that this could potentially do nerve damage to my thumb and related hand/phalanges in the future.

Thoughts/confirmations?

Wear rubber gloves?

On a more serious note though the spark must be arcing to the body, you should be able to easily see where its striking the body from the scorch mark and move the ignitor tip thingo a bit over. Its just bending a small piece of metal with a small jewellery screw driver or something of that nature. You can try that or just return it mate.

I have a few of those lighters with lots of problems. Not reliable from my experience so I would return it for something else if possible. Honestly they are what you pay for. The shock should not be happening.

I would return it as well... otherwise every time you go to light up a fine cigar, you'll have the Pavlov experience of an unplesent shock... eventually that may end up ingraining the shock to cigars, and next you know you'll turn your back on them...

Of course, it could be designed like that by certain governmental anti-tobacco lobbyists... --lol--

funny how a cigar smoker is concerned with his health in relation to a negligible electrical shock from a cigar lighter

hmmmmmmmmmm.....

elaborate, please?

On the side note, i think it's just the fact that he doesn't want to get shocked. it's pretty bloody uncomfortable, yaknow... :) damage was considered after the matter.

You're on the money with that observation.

We used to do that sort of thing for fun in junior high. In fact, in some circles, that would be considered a feature!

Speaking of dumb crap we used to do in high school. Ever heard of a smiley?

As a kid, I used to use the piezo ignition from lighters to get free games on arcade machines... lookaround.gif

I've got one of those and it's been a really good one for me actually. It's the one with the punch on the bottom right? If so I really like that one. Sorry about your troubles!

I suggest you keep it and buy the DuPont also. The Bugatti can come in handy if you have any extra moochie cigar buddies. Sure you can have one, let me grab a lighter for you.

Get the DuPont extend. It's worth it. I've had mine for nearly 8 years and it has never given me any issues.

To be honest, my $8 Ronson zippo lookalike has been my most reliable lighter so far. Good butane is key.

Ronson is my everyday lighter. $8 is double msrp though. They are like $3.95 at Walmart here

Here it's keeping a disposable bic lighter on until the metal too becomes red hot then pressing it into your arm, leaving a smiley face!

It was how we passed the time inbetween licking batteries :D

That was my first thought lol, then again at my local there is a bench outside with splinters, When smoking I always pick the smooth bench and save my assets!

I've got one on each forearm from my younger, dumber days.

Considering some of the stuff people can have done these days (stretched earlobes, inserting things under the skin, scar art, saline injections) a little smily doesn't seem so bad...

Return it and buy the Dupont.

I love mine, and my brother has had one that has been to hell and back, and still works flawlessly.

Buy the Dupont.

I have this lighter and have had no complaints (well except for fuel gauge) for $20+ can't go wrong add to the fact that it comes with a punch makes it an added bonus. Never had a shock though from igniting it, you should send it back and get it replaced!
