Happened last week to a an Aussie member.

He brought in a box of Ramon Allones 898 to share one with myself (2000 from memory).

Few other guys on the deck and he opened the box in front of them. Pristine, great looking sticks.

He was made an offer of $2700 AUD for the box there and then. But it Had to be the full box.

It was his only box of RA 898.

Would you have taken money or the box? covereyes.gif

Despite many opinions, I've never smoked a rare/high dollar cigar and thought to myself, "Damn, this cigar was really worth 50/65/98/105/175/225 bucks." A cigar with pleasing flavors and great compl

He politely declined the offer. He then promptly selected 4 sticks and shared them around. They were indeed excellent. I must say I was indeed humbled by the gesture. Two thumbs up mate

At that price?! Take the money and run! That's at least 2 boxes of the German release (when they're released) and a bottle of something nice to wash them down with.

Money.

Could buy a selection of sticks that I'd enjoy much more than just 25 times.

And then some tipples to enjoy it with

With enough left over to pay someone by the hour for another kind of enjoyment altogether!

Perhaps even all at the same time! :Dr

I may be wrong but perhaps Prez didn't want to focus in the money itself.

I wouldn't sell if it was a special ocasion to me (my son's birthday, wedding party, party with long time friends...). If it was just a regular day I would sell it.

That's a tough one, fine, fine smokes, but yes, I would have to say the money...

Of course, Rob, I likely know where I would be spending that $2700, tho... ;-)

Take the money :) then grab a couple of boxes of your choice to replace them.

I'm just a dumb ol' hillbilly. I am mesmerized by dollar bills.

I'll go against grain and say - Box. It's my favorite cigar of all time. I wouldn't sell it for anything. But, I'd still offer the bloke one, if I was sharing....

That's just how I am.

If I had held onto the box for so long and they were one of my favorite cigars then I would probably hold on to them and enjoy them with mates.

Cash is only paper (or plastic in Aussies case) you can't put a price on enjoying a top notch aged cigar with a bunch of mates, good conversation etc

Having to give up the chance to smoke one would be too much for me.

Given the going rate I'd have to let that one go, find another and have some coin left over.

Of course I'd bring some back to smoke once in hand again.

Take the cash and spend a bit to buy a few singles of the RA 898's. Spend the rest on boxes of other beautiful cigars.

Agree with Chance, I would like to think a BOTL would share at least 1 but no judgement if he is a collector etc.

While I do agree that you can't beat smoking a cigar with your buddies over a great conversation, I've got a somewhat different perspective.

Sometimes, for me at least, the moment makes the cigar, more so than the cigar makes the moment.

In other words, there would've been any number of other cigar choices that would've suited that moment just as well as an RA 898 could have.

I'd have taken the $ and bought a couple standout boxes of say Cohiba Siglo VI for instance, and shared one of those with all my friends, along with at least one round of drinks on me.
