So I went to the casino after work, and sat down at the blackjack table. I won the majority of my hands for the first 10 minutes there, and then decided to light up a cigar. This is one of the only casinos in the area that allows cigar smoking at the tables. A lot of other ones have cigar lounges etc. A couple hands after I light the cigar a guy with an oxygen tank sits down at the seat next to me. Typically I'd just get up and go to another table, but I was on a heater.

What would you guys do?

I ended up letting it go out in the ashtray.

I wouldn't leave the table, but as a medical show of respect, I would put the cigar out.

Much like those that build houses in light commercial areas then whinge and lobby to have the businesses shut down because of pollution and noise....I would expect the last in last out rule to apply. On the other hand I won't play a hot table where the number of people swings from odd to even or vice versa.

x2 on classy, but the gentleman chose the table you were smoking at, correct? I bet the oxygen tank was to increase his brain capacity for counting cards!

That's a joke

letting it go out is nice... as others said: classy

but you don't have to let it die! i'm one of those people that will light a cigar, let it go out whilst i take 20 minutes to eat an entree and relight after the 10 minute suckle on the Digestif.

mind you, i've only done that twice. but you get the point: it CAN be done with little to no sacrifice on flavours.

on oxygen and in the only Casino that allows cigar smoking at the tables ???

Where can I play and smoke cigars? But truth be told if I was rolling and was at the table first I would have kept smoking. Sorry pops but you are on a tank maybe you should keep your gambling in a smoke free casino.

Like Ollie said, he was likely sitting next to you to relive his stogie smoking days and you went and harshed his mellow by putting your stick out! :P

Anyway, nice of you to be thoughtful!

Ask him what he would like. Maybe he likes the aroma. You never know.

I would ask him if he minds... Some old guy on the tank probly used to be a smoker. Let him reminisce. If he said yes "he minds" I would set it down to be relit after my hot streak.

Agree that sitting next to a guy with an O2 tank and a lit cigar is an issue.

As for leaving the table, I'm not a superstitious gambler. Your chances of winning or losing from that point on would be exactly the same at the next table, unless the rules/shoe are different.

Classy....but if I am on a heater I never change my routine at the table no matter what

How did your luck go once cigar was lit or put out?

Plus the Casinos pump double oxygen in them to keep the suckers awake as a FYI :)

It depends. If the guy sat down on 3rd base and didn't know how to play and protect the table then I'd probably set his O2 tank on fire for ruining my heater.

Otherwise if I was up a lot like you were I'd use that as an opportunity to lock up a big win, walk away, dram something nice and finish my cigar in the lounge while talking up Pros.

Just my 2c. and btw I lived in LV for 10 years.

At first I would have said ya, put it out, but then you mentioned everyone's smoking cigarettes throughout the place, so then the guy isn't oblivious when walked into the casino, so in the end I would have just asked him if it bothered him & then go from there

I would have let it go out as you did...out of respect. I've been to casinos that have a non smoking section...not that it makes too much of a difference.
