OZCUBAN Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Never had the pleasure of meeting the big man of the Cuban cigar industry He was by all accounts a legend and will be sorely missed RIP
mikec Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Very sad indeed, I have two Monsdales left that he rolled 8 years ago when I was visiting Club Habana. They will be very special now and will be smoked in his memory.
El Presidente Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 RIP Senor Mons. There is a common thread of the greats in this industry and that is their sheer gentleness, grace and passion for family, friends and the humble leaf. Thank you for all that you have given to so many
Knilas Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Sad day for sure! Deepest sympathies... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
maverickdrinker Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Condolences and prayers to Mons' family. He was a great ambassador for cigars and Cuba. A true gentleman who was always very kind, generous and full of grace. My heart also goes out to Robbie. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Happy to help in any way that I can...
Fuzz Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Another cigar legend has passed. Deepest sympathies and condolences to the Mons family.
CigarGasm Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 RIP. Being a noob to CC's, I only recently learned who this man was and made arrangements to obtain some of his signature cigars (even though they're no longer rolled by him).
MPS Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Very sad news for any passionate Habano lover worldwide - a truly great man has passed, my sincere condolences to his family. I had the pleasure to meet him often, last time Nov. 2012 when Sra Zoe Nocedo took me to his retirement "tertulia" at Hotel Florida where I learned about his most interesting biography : He arrived in Havana at age 15 and became a roller, was then a soldier at the Bay of Pigs invasion, a revolutionary who fulfilled “Internationalist missions” in Ethiopia and Angola, a QC manager for Cubatabaco, founder of the first LCDH in Cuba, 5-ta y 16 and then manager at the Club Habana LCDH. He was nominated last year for Habano Man of the year at the annual Festival del Habano. mons nov 12.JPG Every Monsdale now will be a memoir to his life and achievement. DEP Enrique Mons. Mons grew up in the farms of Pinar del Rio and he always considered himself a farmer first and foremost. His ashes will be spread there on his birthday August 1st. There was a tremendous showing at his memorial today and he was cremated this afternoon. There will never be another with as much knowledge from farm to finish. He was starting a book and it's a shame it will never be finished. His death was way too soon.
tmac77 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Had the pleasure of meeting Enrique a few times in Havana. Very sorry to hear of his passing.
BatFastard Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Sad news indeed… Never had the pleasure of meeting the legend. RIP
fingerburner Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Never met the man but ever thankful for his contribution to the industry. RIP Mons.
