Having a great time with the kids before I head back tomorrow!

Was teaching my daughter Becky (learner driver) how to drive in sand and she was having a hoot.

There was one part of training that was unexpected.....but thankfully I am very experienced at this particular manouvre rotfl.gifrotfl.gifrotfl.gif

Will post some more photo's after todays fishing etal.

I am guessing the maneuver you refer to is shown in the second photo; driving away whilst forgetting your cocktail is on the roof of the car and the boot is open.

Cocktail? Uhm... that's a hand.

It is interesting to note that old school wisdom was to position hands on the steering wheel at 10 and 2 o’clock. However as air bags have become common, this led to the wrist and arm factures when air bags deploy. To avoid that occurrence, it is now recommended that you position your hands at 9 and 3 o’clock on the steering wheel.

In addition, hand-over-hand manoeuvres during turning should be avoided to prevent arms from being in front of a deploying airbag in the event of a crash. Serious injuries may result during such occurrences.

Ha! So it is. On the small screen, through a filter of Ardbeg, it looked like a beverage with two straws.

Cheers Brandon. I had no idea.

Beck did some 60 km through mostly soft sand this morning and 9-3 o'clock hand positioning gave her the strength to hold the line of the jeep through kilometer after kilometer of deep ruts.

Unfortunately she put her phone on the dash. Jeep in its infinite Wisdom has left a 1/4 inch gap between the windscreen and the dash. She couldn't find her phone...I called it....It now rings behind the dash rolleyes.gif

Ha, I do a lot of 4WD and live on the opposite side of the country to Rob. Easter long weekends and summer months their is an abundance of vehicles on the beach. I have never seen the police on the beach ( the odd fisheries officer crawl from the sand dunes) and breath testing on the beach, well this is a first for me, very surprised to see this. That said I think West Aus is the only state not to have RBT on the water (boating) either. Beautiful looking beach must be impossible to get bogged no.gif . Have fun and I hope you guys catch some fish.

Cops !?!?! On a Beach!?!?!? Never seen a cop on a beach here unless a fight or something has happened.

You are lucky it is just a cell phone. My wife teaches school and the class hamster escaped while being transported to school. It fled behind the dashboard and could be seen occasionally peering out from the speedometer. I called Car Talk and was advised to get it out before it died. We failed and the smell was awful. Luckily, insurance covered the $1,000 cost of removing the remains.

Looks like awesome fun! Shame PC Plod of the fun police turned up but it must obviously mean he had finished his quota of stopping murders and rapes for the day right? :D

I have great memories of driving with my dad while learning in secluded places at that age, Bek will always remember the day out!

9 and 3? But then how would you hold on to you cigar and glass of wine? innocent.gif

one in each hand whilst also holding the steering wheel and you can only sip or puff when a corner in the road gets the 9 or 3 hand directly in front of your mouth.

i'm pretty sure that's in the Official Road Code somewhere

Fraser Island? I rented a Landcruiser up there and bombed around for 24h when I was living in Melbourne. Beautiful place. Left our motorcycles on the mainland, brought the cruiser over and slept in the back. Nothing like waking up parked on the beach with no one around as far as you can see.
