MC4 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I got my 15 box of H. Upmann Mag 46, and to my surprise, it's from 2005. The fact that's it's 8 years old, is this something I should be happy about or not?
MC4 Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 Where did you get this? Not sure if we can mention the source, but they are not from Oz.
srbbones Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 If stored correctly, you will likely be pleased. If not.... Let us know!
jrb5783 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I believe I know where you got these I split a 15 box with a member and were very good
MC4 Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 What's the question? the question is, do you think this is too old and past it's prime? The sweet spot for some cigar as far as aging is between 3-5 years, and after that, they become flat, one dimensional and loose their characteristics. So I was just asking people for their opinion. Clear?
SurpriseMVP Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Some guys have really enjoyed those 05's recently. I personally think they are just ok and force yourself to get through the first inch before pitching it. The flavors open up a bit after the first inch. Mike

Uh?? What cigars? Certainly not the case of the Magnum 46… That said I would never purchase any 8 years old cigars in cardboard petacas. btw this topic has been already discussed recently.

My past exp. with for example, Monte Sublimes '08, mine have lost their twang and now just taste like the grand Edmundo. On the other hand, my RyJ Churchill from '06, have turned into a fantastic smoke.
MC4 Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 I read on this and other forums that so and so cigar will be great in 3 year or 5 years, and/or people say that this cigar is not ready right now and needs a bit of age. I've read a couple reviews people have done on really old cigars and even though they say it was a very enjoyable cigar, it was past it's premium. So I guess from what I am hearing here in this thread is that cigars get better and better with age, no optimum number of years, and 8 years of age is better than say 6, and 10 year better than 8.
ramon_cojones Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 just smoke the cigars brosef i took mine out a couple months ago and some smoke great, some variance between them
Skyfall Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 In my opinion , people spend way too much time and energy on the practicum of cigars and less on the enjoyment of them!
mk05 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 We are not asking the correct question. Is that bird behind the box of cigars real? Move them out of the petaca into a desktop. Let them sit for at least 6 months. The damage has already been done, but you'll notice that it doesn't smoke as thin.

Cardboard with nice aluminium tubes inside seems ok...

The first inch was bitter and kind of harsh, and then opened up nicely. I am not a good reviewer, but woody, nutty flavors came out and turned into a nice sweet flavor all the way to the end. Smoked it to the nub. I have to let them rest a bit longer to recover from the shipment as they are still a bit dry.
Smallclub Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Cardboard with nice aluminium tubes inside seems ok... No way in this case. The Magnum 46 in tube was introduced in 2009…
al321 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I have a cab of 2005 Mag 46s that are awesome! Pour a nice drink, turn on some good tunes and light one up...have a feeling you will enjoy!
Dimmers Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I have some 2005 yr Mag 46 in petacas - great smokes from the 2 I've sampled to date.
CurtisEss Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 I recently went through a petaca of Mag 46s from 2005. There was a lot of variability between cigars. Two or three of them were excellent, a couple were good, etc. There were some serious draw problems with at least 3 or 4 despite the age. It seems that they made a lot of these in 2005.
SurpriseMVP Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 No way in this case. The Magnum 46 in tube was introduced in 2009… Dont believe everything you read. I have 08 mag 46 tubo purchased from three different vendors over several years. Mike

Dbone Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 I've read, however I don't know for myself, that cigars being rolled in Cuba are smoking so well young today that many wonder if they'll age well compared to their decade plus old counterparts. A few boxes have gone sick, at least I think they did, but besides those my boxes are from 2008 till 2013 and they are all enjoyable. Only exception is a 2003 cab of Hoyo DD, which are outstanding as well.
riazp Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 as said here, Less talking more smoking. Everyone has their opinion on aging, and for me its personal taste. some cigars i feel need age, and some cigars like a party short, i enjoy young and i like the in your face spice they when young. Smoke one and post a review.
