Normally I would leave about 4 cm when I put it down. IMO most of the fun (flavorwise) is over by then anyway. There are exceptions of course, but that was not your question.

If the cigar is a joy;what I consider a finger burner.

It will be smoked all the way down to half an inch.

I smoke it till i'm not enjoying it anymore. Exeptional cigars get nubbed till i cant hold on to it. if not in most cases 3/4s of an inch to an inch

However thick my thumb and pointer finger is. If the cigar is great, I'll smoke until my finger nails can't grip no more.

That is pretty much what I do. I will also toss a cigar if I am not enjoying it regardless of how much is left.

This. And if the cigar seems to go south along the way at any point, into the fireplace it goes.

Like so much about this topic, it's completely subjective. If I'm enjoying it tremendously, then I'll smoke it till I can't hold it any more. Otherwise, I smoke until I just hit that "done" feeling - could be an inch left, or I could be halfway through the cigar (those early finishers are always NCs though - CCs I tend to hold on to until the bitter end!).

As long as the cigar isn't bad, I typically will smoke down to where the band was, so 1-1.5 inches, sometimes 2-3 inches if it's a giant cigar. I think most flavor and enjoyability for the average cigar is gone when you get down past 1 inch. I guess it all depends the cigar.

Sometimes I lay on my back ....

I wish all cigars allowed for finger burning nubs.

If good, I go until I can't. If bad, they are pitched. post-13208-13685441130207.jpgpost-13208-13685441348123.jpgpost-13208-13685441595712.jpg

Toronto guys know a guy named Lloyd, who made a cigar roach clip out of the wire from a champagne cork. Now that's dedication.

It's rare to get beyond 2 inches for me. It happens once in a while when I perfectly smoke the perfect cigar, but rarely. Years ago, before I grasped the concept of slowing down, i'd rarely get beyond the half way mark. I have that mastered but I am still pretty sensitive to cigar char and don't often push it.

Usually about an inch. I move the cigar band towards the cap end so that it is still comfortable to smoke then carry on smoking until the ash gets to the band.

The advice I was given is to smoke until I stop enjoying it. I continue just a few puffs more just in case.

I typically will smoke a cigar down to 1 inch or 1.5 inches. If I'm not enjoying it, the cigar will be tossed before that point.

I recently got a blister on the tip of my thumb courtesy of a fantastic La Escepcion Italia RE, but normally I drop a cigar when it starts to become harsh. Varies, but that's typically an inch +.
