I only knew Rod a very short time. Havanathon was the first time I'd met him face to face. Even in this short time, I had such respect and admiration for him. He was the sort of bloke you felt you'd known your whole life. His battle must've been horrendous, yet when you saw him, you were always greeted with that big smile and cheery disposition.

We've lost a true gentleman and friend. It was an honour to know him.

RIP mate

First met Rod at one of our Perth herfs last year, and he became a regular at our monthly meets.

Never once did I hear him complain, always there with a smile and enjoying life to the max.

Even making it to Havanathon last year, which was no easy feat or him at the time.

A true genlteman and friend.

RIP Rod. I'm so glad I was able to meet you and share a few yarns and cigars. You were the heart and soul of the Perth herf such a good bloke. Always rocked up even when he was really struggling the last couple of herfs, such an inspiration. A true BOTL. Rest in peace.

Similarly, I met Rod during Havanathon. Though I only met you once, you were a good bloke and easy to talk to.

My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Rod.

So sad, Rod was one of the kindest people you could meet. As brave and inspiring as they come. I will miss just sitting back and smoking a cigar with such a fine man . He treasured being part of FOH and loved his Perth brothers to bits. RIP mate.

Rod, you touched the lives of many mate. Your life was a masterclass on dealing with pain and impending death with tremendous courage, humour and humanity.

It was an honour to know you.

Wow. Sounds like an amazing chap, and it's amazing to realize how many of us are in this hobby, and get on so smashingly here in these forums, but then we never have the divine pleasure to meet and share good times with in real life. A small, tight-knit neighbourhood....that's still worlds away from each other.

Defintely sounds like a great man, and had an impact on our Aussie brethren.

Condolences and godspeed, Rod, and all the best wishes for his family and friends as well.

Rod was at the center of any cigar event he went to, and always had great stories of a life lived to the max. You will be missed mate.

I never knew or met Rod but looking at that picture on the other thread, it says a great deal.

Rod looked happy, content and loved by his mates and the broader BOTL community. It is extremely sad whenever anyone passes away at such a young age and more so when it is from a disease which we still have no cure for, cancer. I wish and hope for the best to all of Rods family, friends and loved ones. I also wish that Rod rests in peace. God bless.
