Seems to be a decent amount of 2005 stuff around, anything you've found to be particularly good or bad? 2005 seemed to be a year of transition, any input?

Mag 46

Boli Beli

To name a few.....

Thanks!

My personal perspective, starting with the cigars you've mentioned -

'05 Upmann Magnum 46 - it took a good three years or so, but brilliant.

'05 Bolivar BF - pass for me

A few not mentioned -

'05 Partagas SD4 - probably the most insipid cigars I've ever smoked.

'05 Partagas SP2 - pass for me.

'05 Partagas in general - for me a crap shoot.

'05 Ramon Allones Specially Selected - only slightly better than the Partagas SD4

That's all off the top of my head, but for me '05 was somewhat hit or miss overall.

Which could probably be said for every year smile.png

Ironically I just met and spoke with a gentleman about this yesterday. He said that the 05 Mag 46 he bought are good and does not taste like cardboard (which I specifically asked about).

Yeah the 05 mag 46 that are floating around right now have all been good (at least the ones I have tried from a few different boxes). Great way to get some aged stock on the cheap.

I have had horrible 05 magnum 46 in 2010 from the same source that is offering them now. I have had good luck with HDM Epicure no. 1 and no. 2, SLR Churchill, and RASS. My favorite was a fifty cab of SLR churchill and I am debating picking up a second cab of 05s, but the price is a little bit more than I can afford.

Smoked a handful of Monte Edmundos from 05 and they have all been really good. Not much experience with anything else.

on my last 3 from a box of 05 RG Lonsdales, so far all of them have been very enjoyable

I've got a box of SLR DCs from 2005 that are smoking very nicely.

I have had some excellent SLR DC from 05, not as good as some of the 01s.

I'd say it is an average vintage - not outstanding, but not terrible either. Exception are Punch which seem to have a different (better) blend compared to the later ones, especially Punch Punch. I wouldn't go out of my way to seek out 2005 vintage sticks.

All these great reports about good 05 mag 46s make me very sad :(

I have some 05s (from partagas factory albeit in petacas not cabs) and they are terrible, all washed out bland and i suppose yes, a bit like smoking cardboard. Give me a fresh mag46 over one of the batch i have any day

Are other peoples mag46s from cabs or petacas?

I have a bunch of the Partagas petaca. I wouldn't say these are washed out, but rather "tight." I originally jumped the gun and questioned its authenticity (per rule of "if it's too good to be true, it usually is"), but upon verifying source and getting some sage advise from older guys, I've determined that it is the petaca storage.

I have smoked my good share of it until now, and think they will need time out of the cardboard to "regenerate" - maybe 6+ months - to see if they will start to open up. I have my doubts as to whether or not these will become as creamy and viscous as the '08 cabs, but we shall see.

These petacas come from Spain (at least those that bear the Altadis sticker).

Spain, which just released a beautiful jar containing 19 "vintage" Magnum 46… from 2005. Ah ah ah.
