Montecristo Sublime 2008 EL

Box Code: USE OCT 08 (Strangely the 'S' is printed upside down in the middle of the code????)

6 1/5 x 54

I know these have a reputation about them which is hard to shake but each one that I have had has lived up to that hype! 2008 must have been a special year as the Cuaba EL is also fantastic in my opinion, and like the Sublime they still have plenty of legs to age left!

Construction: Spot on! My Palio is not that great on larger ring guages, I've read about quality issues with them recently and I'm wondering if they have change the manufacture methods?

Cold Draw: Rich and spicy tobacco and a sharp snap of dark chocolate.

First Third: This is just pure chocolate milkshake. I always automatically draw conclusions between the Sublime and Grand Edmundo and I'm always shocked how different they are, for the big, angry and full bodied power that the grand Edmundo brings, the Sublimes have always been medium bodied at best for me and are so, so smooth! If these initial first few puffs could be turned into a whole cigar I don't think I would smoke anything else! Progressing now and coffee creme has appeared and is mixing with the smooth milk chocolate. Surely this cigar needs to come with a calorie count!

Second Third: Talk about calorie count! Chocolate rich tea biscuit gradually starts to blend in and then builds into a fantastic balance with the coffee creme and silky milk chocolate, and it's all still so smooth! The smoke is thick and coats the roof of the mouth with a thin coat of oil. A darkness starts to creep into the mix half way through this second third, maybe the Sublime is trying to poke fun at it's smaller Brother the Grand Edmundo and show it that if he fancies it, he can become brooding and strong.

Final Third: That darkness has smoothed out now but has to be treated gently, this cigar is really showing it's class. I can't imagine where this cigar will be in four or five years, I'm not sure that I will have any left by then! The dark coffee and chocolate which has decided to stay around is working amazingly well with the biscuit which appeared in the second third, this is like dunking Cadbury finger biscuits in a cappuccino. Nubbed.

I'm stuck between putting the rest of this box away for four more years or chain smoking them all now :D

93/100 only because I think they could gain another five points with some more age. If you find some of these on your travels then pick them up, don't even grab singles!

great review.

Sounds like mine was a bit stronger than the one the you smoked. I have noticed some construction issues (mostly underfilling) however, it hasn't impacted the flavour.

I agree with you that it is a great cigar and worth stocking up on. Thank goodness that I squirrelled away a few boxes of these....

^lol

You guys gotta tone down all this hyperexcited and/or poetic rhetoric and just give us the straight and skinny. Not in the mood for creative writing assignments lol.

I think they just got overlooked because of the other releases that year but they are great aren't they! So rich, I don't think the best will come out of them for another 3 years at least still!

Cheers Blake!

Jszeto, they for me at least, are wildly different cigars. The GE are like an Edmundo on steroids, if you like big agressive full bodied smokes then they re the ones for you. The Sublimes for me have been super smooth and mellow, almost like the Monte especial #2.

Thanks for your insight, the Sublimes is probably suited for me then. BTW, love your video reviews. Keep them coming.

Thanks : )

I'd probably go with the Sublimes, the D is excellent if you can get a good box too. I was talking to some people a few days ago about the D, kind of like an Ode to Monte by Sancho Panza, delicious!

I haven't been blown away by the rest really but I can appreciate how people will like the others if they like the full bodied side of Monte.

Haven't had the Sublimes. I had the chance to get a box for pretty cheap about 6 months ago, but passed it up. The best Monteristo EL for me was the Millenium Robusto followed by the Montecristo C followed by the Grand Edmundo. It's always nice to try singles before buying a box. I thought the Grand Edmundo was good, but I was able to find some aged Monte Edmundos that were just as good and almost half the price.

Thanks, Shlomo,

I was reading rule #5 of FOH and maybe I shoudn't have asked about it (at this time I've already edited my other post about it in another thread) so I kindly ask you to delete your post and I will edit the above one as well.

Hello, Pres, if you are reading this post I'd like to ask you about #5:

Rule 5 No Discussion of Sources and Prices

...

In relation to prices from sources this can always be done through internal PM between members which the forum supports. It will not occur on the Forum or Shoutbox. The only exception is when Regionals or specific country cigars are released. These are priced by distributors and are uniform and general discussion of the price is permitted but not a specific vendor.

Pres, of course Sublimes are not Regionales but they are no longer widely available and sadly not in *****int.

Is it allowed to ask price about this kind of cigar or it is Rule #5 the same way?

Thanks
