pwhite Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I was wondering how many cigars you keet in your humidor at any one time and if you have a strategy for smoking them? I have been smoking cigars for about 20 years, however, just started CC's within the last 2. Presently I have about 350 cigars and 20 non CC's(reserved for golf). My go to's are Hoyo DC's Upmann #2's, Boli Petit Corona's and Party Shorts. My goal is to always have at least 150 of each. This way by the time I get to them they will be somewhat aged. When I was with the FDNY I used to be able to smoke 2-3 on a 24 hr shift (the firehouse is still the only place in NYC where you can smoke unhindered), now that I'm retired I only get to smoke about 3/week in the nice weather and maybe 3/month in the winter. What is your cigar count and strategy?
pjansen Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Count: 575, I know this because I have an excel spreadsheet called humidor inventory. Strategy: I just try to have a cigar for every occasion on hand. So I smoke whatever time allows for or what I'm in the mood for that day.
pwhite Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Count: Too many. Not enough. Strategy: Non-existent.
cigcars Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Right now about 250 there or abouts, NC's and CC's. Really need to order more soon.
Themis Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Roughly 600 plus. And also 60 or so non Cubans(for handouts cuz non Cubans are scrap in my opinion.) my strategy is based on time constraints and what I'm craving. Also trying not to smoke from aging boxes lol. Sometimes I'm dieing for a des Dieux but I know I can't touch my box because when they are aged I know I'll cream my shorts. I love des Dieux young though.
bdp Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 What, Where, How much?Tupperdor with beads @ 65%, 6-20 sticks at any time. I prefer to hold few. Under the ensuite basin. Great stable temp. Strategy? I like to hold few and explore more. I'll buy from 3 to a boxful of something I like enough and share the experience. More memorable that way. I'm liable to forget why I bought something, and my moods and motivations change a lot.
maverickdrinker Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I don't know how many cigars I have. Never enough, it seems. My strategy is to stick to 4 marcas and have samples of others. Cohiba, RA, Trinidad, and montecristo make up the majority of my inventory, in terms of brand names. Custom rolls from different rollers (mostly Hamlets) and various other marcas make up the rest. My strategy is to go deep on those 4 marcas as I financially can before the embargo lifts.
davidsan Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I have about 95 at the moment. Mostly Robusto / Corona / Corona Gorda and Petit Corona size and a half dozen DC's thrown in for good measure. I try to have at least 25 of my favorites on tap so Boli RC, JL #2 and some Punch Punch if they are going well.
Rushman Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 maybe a few hundred back in the good ole USA. Maybe 200 or so in the OLH - strategy there is to keep my dirty mitts off maybe a few thousand here in mexico but all but a few boxes of that belong to our shop - my strategy there is to smoke less than I sell - i didnt do that tonight - harder than you think in the slow season! overall strategy, smoke my last stick on my death bed
baragh Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Count: Too many. Not enough. Strategy: Non-existent. this. probably close to 500
ramon_cojones Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Count: who knows and yep never enough Strategy: can't stop the cop
PigFish Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 this. probably close to 500 I have a few... I have no strategy. I used to buy what I could afford when I had the desire. Since most of the cigars I like are no longer made, I make due with what I have hoarded over the years. I have no limits. I smoke what I want when I want. The biggest hindrance is knowing that I will never be able to replace my stock. Secondarily I gift less do to that fact. While some of my favorites are still made, I no longer have the zeal for the hunt like I used to have. Most of the newer cigars are either larger than I have a taste for, or are EL's and other unproven over priced items. Everything else in the catalogue I have smoked. There are no new doors to open. The EL hunt is futile and disappointing, not to mention expensive. New 50+ ring cigars are light in weight, easy drawing and typically insipid. If I am going to smoke cigars that taste like they came out of a tobacco 'blender' I might as well just buy the cheapest ones that I can buy! When I get back to buying cigars it will be only to continue to stockpile 42 ring and under cigars. I will probably simply buy multiple boxes of the few that I now favor. -Piggy
nikesupremedunk Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 When/if my box in transit arrives I'll have a little under 200 CC's. I could have sworn I had close to 250 in the beginning of summer, but last week I realized I was down to about 140. I guess it makes sense, since I smoked at least one cigar a day. ideally I'd like to have at least 250 CC's but would like to increase that number when I get my own place. Having blown through my stock without realizing, I decided to take a break from smoking CC's everyday and let them age until next spring. In the meantime, I'll have to go to b&m's once or twice a week since it'll be impossible to smoke outdoors in the cold. Might pick up 2 more boxes before I go into hibernation.
tydra Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I always get paranoid about discontinued/LE/RE cigars, so I find myself obsessively buying as much as possible of those (the one's that are worth it). So I've bought as many boxes I can from: Boli CE Punch RS 11 and 12 Trini T RA Extras RA Beritus Punch Emiratos Por Lar Belicoso Extras and Encantos In addition, I try to have enough stock of my go to cigars in order to age them decently, like the Hoyo des dieux, RASS, party shorts, boli petit coronas etc... As cigars are my only vice, I do tend to splurge on them, my only highlight of the day, so I've stocked up about 150 boxes in all.
mk05 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 When I was with the FDNY I used to be able to smoke 2-3 on a 24 hr shift (the firehouse is still the only place in NYC where you can smoke unhindered)... Oh the irony
Hazza Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I'm at about 150 at the moment. Only started really getting into CCs in the last four months so I'm pretty happy with that so far. I have around 50 sticks in the humi. Mainly ones that have taken my interest or that I want to try. If I like them ( and money permits) ill get a box. currently at four boxes. Hoyo epi 2s, JLS 2s, Boli PCs and PL Panatellas. My only strategy is with the boxes. I want to smoke them periodically and really see the difference ageing has over time. Hopefully find out where the sweet spot is with each cigar for my particular taste and preference.
Dimmers Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Looks like more than my humi can store atm.....
Hash Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 # of cigar sticks= 310. planning to burn and smoke them.
pwhite Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 LOL. I never thought of it that way.
partifan Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 At this point I'm at about 300 CC. I buy what I like and smoke them for my strategy.
Puros Y Vino Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Count: I finally started doing a proper inventory and to my horror/delight I'm at 1300+ sticks. Strategy: Buy as much as I can, when I can. As a Canadian, tobacco is taboo here. Until our federal postal service is able to scan every box and nail it, I'm going to order. And it's only a matter of time before they adopt the idiotic approach down under. Green labels et al.
hdryder Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 According to my excel spread sheet I have 1040 cubans @ home & 360 in my OLH. I still have probably 50 or 60 NC's(slowly dissapearing & never to return) which I dont include in my excel inventory spread sheet. As far as strategy I try to smoke my aged stock(3+ yrs)or cigars that I have multiple boxes of. Cheers Richard
