El Presidente
it was blowing 25 knots on Wivenhoe dam when we put the fishing canoe together and it was bloody cold. The weather forecast had it decreasing from midday to 15 knots which was workable. This is a no outboard motor dam...only electrics so you don't want to be caught coming any distance into serious wind. 1pm and it was blowing 35 knots and we were 5km from base. I suspected we had better head back just in case. We normally fish 10km from base but I just had an inkling trouble was brewing First battery gone 4km from home. Second battery being run at 100% on the Minn Cota Riptide 55. Straight into the wind we were doing a massive 1.9kmh. .......it wouldn't last an hour. Pulled over to the bank and walked the canoe the final 2km now blowing 40 knots. i could surf some of the waves in the dam. Wouldn't change it for the world. Tom (11) caught two cracker bass using TN70 Black Jackles in 4.5-6m of water, The first coming in at 3.4 kilo. <br class="Apple-interchange-newline">

Strada
Great story and fish. Some of my best memories are with my dad fishing and escaping bad weather. We once had an hour boat ride to shore while hailing/raining and we had to put the tent up when we reached shore. Good job Rob!

GotMuscle
Awesome!! Glad you got in safe, water can be a scary place when those winds whip up and, your not in the boat to deal with it. Looks like you had some good bonding time though, so I'm sure it was supposed to be just how it worked out

CanuckSARTech
Yup, every father's dream. Kudos to Tom and to you Rob. An old Zebco bumper sticker reads, "Don't let your kid be the one that got away." Classically defined here. Very well said. I just started to teach my four-year-old son to fish a few weeks back. He caught a whole bunch of bluegill and small bass his first time out, and just thought it was the cat's arse to tear the worms to bits to put on the hooks. He absolutely loved it, and me more so in seeing his reactions. It's the coolest part of sharing things like this. Makes all the hassles and bothers of life well worth it, IMO.
